We'll soon find out. Marilyn Meeker Durham is one of the persons consulted for RISE, as per the film's website. She'll probably be one of the persons interviewed in the film..hopefully. :)

Also, there is this from Wikipedia -

In my area as far as I know it's just the film presentation. But if it's like you say then even better yet-more skating to enjoy on the big screen.

BTW. were is she today? Is Mailyn still alive and well? How old would she be now?

    This should answer your QQs:
    from Wikipedia -

As of May 2007, Marilyn (Meeker) Durham resides in New Braunfels, TX with her husband, John, of 45 years; they have two adult children and two granddaughters.

If she were 18 in 1960, she'd be around 68 now (mas o menos).

Kind of LOLing at the word "civilians"...ironically one of the team wasn't. One of the skaters (a brother in a brother-sister team?) was US Military and iirc his body was shipped home first because of it. And there were not only lots of other passengers but of course the flight crew.

The author at the end of the interview...I really don't think any aviation expert will ever help. This was the first commercial crash of a Boeing 707 and I'm sure besides the normal investigation Boeing went over the matter with a fine-tooth comb. (I should ask my brother, who's in aviation mgt, and my Dad, who was an engineer at Boeing, though I think a few years after the crash. He did do something about the later versions of the 707, though, so I suppose it can't hurt to ask.) At this point, it's unlikely anyone will figure out exactly what went wrong. The descriptions I've read certainly SOUND like there was some sort of mechanical error, but no survivors, no black box/cockpit recorders, and the pilot not saying anything to the tower before they went down, and not many pieces left...one of those mysteries unlikely to ever be solved.

Yes wrong choice of words, my bad. But I'm sure you get my drift ;)

Say,unless I missed it in the artical. How old is she now,and what's she doing now? I just read that she's married with 2 kids. BTW. do they skate? Also, was the lucky Marilyn Meeker ever interviewed about her feelings about what happened? I can almost imagine her breaking her leg, waiting for it to heal so she could get back on ice with her Partner. Then finding that after all that, that something else needed healing...her inside. Because she lost her Partner. Did we say who she Partnered up with after that? The artical is right about one thing though.God DID leave her with good fortune....as what COULD have happened. BTW. we've seen photos of DIANE and Larry (Sherbloom/Pierce. But are there any left of Marilyn and Larry (or Meeker/Pierce)? Thanks.

Dang. I wish I'd seen that a couple of days ago. I wish that the USFSA did a better job of marketing to fans.

I don't think this movie is being broadcast in Canada- I can't find it in any movie listings in the Greater Vancouver area.

Hopefully there will be a DVD though! I'd love to see the movie..

I got an e-mail tonight from the Nats LOC, mostly geared to NC locals - they're having a yard sale of Nats merchandise and promotional items (posters, signs, etc) this weekend, lol - and they are having a pre-Rise party (with free tickets) for the Nats volunteers (those who are local, obviously) at a local theater that is showing the movie, and the e-mail mentions that "Rise starts at 8 pm, with preliminary on-screen activities beginning at 7:30 pm". That is in line with what I heard a few months ago - I think it's just going to be a red carpet type of show, with video shots and interviews of the showing in NYC, so you might want to get to your theater a little early.

Thanks. I agree with the person who left a comment on the site-I too wish Frank had at least mentioned the deceased champions by name, and that he had not wandered off talking about other sports tragedies, or near tragedies. And I also agree with the person who left that comment that Frank only usually comments on skating with snarky remarks.

I read somewhere that Larry Pierce had been a Marine. I'm sure I read about another athlete on the team who was military.

This is very useful information to know. Thank you! I'll make a point of getting to my theater earlier-than-usual.

I heard that there are also going to be post-film activities broadcast as well with the event expected to run until 10:00 pm.

9:30 or 9:45 might be closer, but 10 is probably a good outside estimate.

On the USFS midwestern conference call (club officers), they said that half an hour before the RISE movie, there will be "vintage" clips similar to what is shown on the jumbotron at Nationals. 10 min to the hour, the live red carpet event from Time Square will begin to broadcast. On the hour, the movie will be shown, followed by the (taped) special performances. At least, I think I got this right.

We also were at the taping. Randy Gardner did simple but lovely group choreography for Evan, kids from the North Carolina skating clubs (carrying pennant flags), and all the newly crowned champions, novice to senior. Very dramatic lighting, should be good.

I think that's right. I was on the Eastern section conf call, and we got the same thing, but I can't find my notes from that call to save my life. But your post has jogged my memory. :)

They were also looking for skating club volunteers to hand out exit survey cards after the show is over.

see- the isu felt sorry for them, because of the medals, and the momentum the U,S. was bringing in the public attention due the medals in the previous Olympics and years, and television was just starting in more U.S. homes. So the Isu did the appropriate thing at that time and GAVE THe U.S. automatic 3 spots which by rules, they shouldn't have. BUT they broke the rules and did what they felt at that time morally right-decently, common sense right.
Nowadays forget rules, what is right, they do just what the money wants and the heck with the rules.
i wonder how many rules the U.s has bended to get what they want because of the money-not morally right, common sense right but only for money.

yup got away with rule bending then and every since.

    You are an asshat.

Maybe the ISU "felt sorry" because an entire planeload of people was killed in a horrible accident.

Yep that's the only way the US would ever win any medals. It seems pretty petty to be pointing out rules and whether or not you agree with them whenever this is supposed to be a remembrance and celebration of those that perished.
