I don't think he will compete, but he if he had listened to his concerned fans then he might not have his Vancouver medal and he definitely wouldn't have his Sochi medal. He's going to do what he wants to do. I find it very hard to imagine he will actually come back this time but he's an adult and if he feels like he has to go through the training and try to get his jumps back so he can retire without any doubts... that's what he will do.

I don't think he will actually come back, but his competitive fires are still burning, so he needs to follow his heart and make his own discoveries about the state of his body.

Thanks for the new thread!

I kind of think that's what's driving him (besides his fierce competitve spirit), is that he has done this before. I remember an interview he did right before the Vancouver games and he talked about how people couldn't believe that he was able to comeback after so much time off, the weight he'd gained etc. He said, even he sort of found it unbelievable, but was pleased with his return.

That said, he's no longer the 26 year old he was back then. He's had more surgeries, and honestly though he made it to Sochi, it was by the skin of his teeth. He was impressive, but in no way competitve with Hanyu, Chan etc. Hopefully this annoucement is nothing more than him and the Russian Federation trying to stir up excitement for the new skating season in the fall.

I'd hate to see him return and be a mile off the podium. Worse, I'd hate to see him return and injure himself beyond repair. But this isn't about me. He is a grown man. His choices are his, and his alone to make. Whatever he chooses to do I hope it works out well for him.

Well, if he is, this certainly explains why Gachinski left St Petersburg...

I rather hope he's not. I'd like to see him able to run around after his children in the future. But if this is what he wants, then I guess nobody can stop him.

I'm a little bit calmed down.. I was thinking logically. In last year he begun to train in april he stepped on the ice in may, he landed in his first triplas end of june, he landed in the first 3A July, he landed in first quad in auguste. He wasn't ready to COR, and the Rus Nat!!! He will start his traning in 16 june-Mishin corrected the date-in Pinzolo Mishin's training camp. So I hardly believe he will be ready in this year, I think he is in the Rus Team thus Plushy's team(Mishin, the choreographer etc.) receives money for it. Mishin has only one top skater Liza now. But because he is Plushenko when the journalists saw his name on the list immediately became sensation. Plus in this interview http://www.sportsdaily.ru/articles/...-plyuschenko-mne-nravitsya-darit-lyubov-59915 he said: google translating
"I will come to Japan in just a couple months and did not rule out that we will communicate with him . But we want to work more in figure skating at himself , make some new programs . Not saying that it will be in the sport , but in demonstrations necessarily . I want to go and make new world premieres , shows, tours . Therefore, coaching is necessary to wait . While the desire to draw me as a coach and as a consultant for the technical component and the Japanese have , and on the American side . This applies hopping ??? area footwork . But I still want to go on demonstrations..

He will have no time to prepare if he will be on show tour, he would have all day to make up for lost time.

I agree with Casy probably they are talking about Japan Open as a competition...

It's possible this might be a language mixup. Perhaps the "u" ending of the name is difficult in Russian? I don't know. But, for example, the Japanese do not have an "l" sound in their language. So they struggle with some names from other cultures. Happens all the time in different places.

I wonder how Mishin feels about letting Yagudin go when ultimatum thrown down; "him or me?" Tatiana acquired a ready made champion, but her choreography took Alexei to a new level! Overall, his artistry was significantly more substantial than Evgeny; just didn't have the durability in the end! Plushenko eclipsed him by so much after all is said and done! Will 4 medals be possible for someone soon since addition of team competition? Chan maybe? One of the Russian girls?

V&T could very well win two medals in 2018 and tie him up, which would be sort of unfortunate because it took him so long to get here. But he'll still be the only one, with Grafstrom, to have medals in four different Olympics.

Mishin loved Plushy better because he knows their personalities. Evgeni is far better person as Yagudin. Mishin and Plushy are like father and son. And Mishin more highly valued Plushy's skills as Yagudin's. And I'm bored Yagudin wasn't more artistry as Plushy. Maybe you like more Yag's style.

Details:
Yagudin: 20 perfect 6.0 scores.

Plushenko: even without the 6.0 in Nat Champ, is cca 40. (cca 70 in total)

Michelle Kwan: 57 6.0 scores, including 35 from Ntional Champ. And she has a longer career than plushenko under 6.0 system.

And Yagudin had similar serious programs. Plushy is more diverse, Mishin said he is Shakespeare of figure skating. He showed every emotions on ice.

Finally this is Evgeni's fan thread, so go to Alexei's thread! I wasn't there and didn't write how poor man Yagudin is and why Plushy is better than him!!! Some Yagudin's fans are so poor person as their idol. :(

some posts to the Nijinsky videos:
I can watch this performance for the next 10 years or longer and no male figure skater will even come close to beating this skate. Amazing beyond belief!

The God is exist Plushenko is the proof

You are perfect and best ever, Plushenko. I cried 2 times by watching this performance. What a beautiful performance with full of emotion.

No wonder they call him " Baryshnikov on ice". The same incredible determination to fight, the same wonderful intensity, charisma, elegance, style, beauty and power. Sometimes I envy russians for having such great legends.

If you only can watch one figure skating program in your entire life, watch this.

I have goose bumps every time I watch this. This is the crystallization of supreme beauty and delicate emotions. Love you forever evegeni!

Ignoring the obviously trolling parts of your post, Chan didn't medal in Vancouver. I can't see him making 2018. It would be sad if someone went and did in just two Olympics what it took Plushy four to achieve.

It is interesting, though, to consider the latest coaching situations in the Russian men...if Evgeni does come back this season, it is not Kovtun he should fear.

Yes, Lipnitskaya has chance to achieve Plushy. If she will compete in 2018, 2022 and 2026. :) If the Russian team will be so strong she will have more medals. But Plushy has 3 individual medals, so go Julia!! :)

Trolling? What a F'n idiot! Just because I said Alexei probably had more content in his programs? Fool, I lost respect for Alexei and his behavior long ago! He's no fave of mines, but I can be an honest person and know he deserved his Olympic medal and Worlds titles without being a 'homer" like you! Evgeni's the best IMO! I still shed tears for a few of his programs; Adagio (sp), St.Ptr300, and Tribute To Nijinski! I'll probably have to devote a blog to him now! Thanks for making such a huge mistake; got me going!

Or at least use different names, so it's not so obvious that you are the same poster using the same insults under different names.

People can sure be tiresome. I know it's the off season, but I am really cranky today and I am too tired for this crap. Sybil needs to find another hobby.

Exactly. This person was unnecessarily nasty in their response, which was totally uncalled for.

Anyway, is Plushy back on the ice? I seem to remember reading that he plans to skate in an ice show in June, then there's talk of him competing next season.

Me too. I really wish he'd wait at least 8 months to a year before he starts trying to skate again. I know that is not ideal for him, but he did just have major back surgery barely 2 months ago. He really should not push himself. The shows will always be there, his back won't if he continues to put stress on it.
