The show was fantastic last night. Best one of the three so far. Absolutely magnificent. Will post a report later, hope more videos will show up soon too!

Thanks :). And, yes: "Opera on Ice has become an important part of the Veronese social calendar since launching in 1995 and is part of a series of shows which tour Europe, stopping at Stockholm, Lausanne and Zurich as well as the Italian city.

Along with some of the world's top figure skaters, performers who have lent their voices to the show include Chris de Burgh, Leona Lewis and Ronan Keating.
    " :D

    Thank you for the videos.

Carolina looked like a goddess in "Va pensiero". The silence was gripping while she was performing. So smooth and lyrical. I really hope she will keep this exhibition for this season, it suits her so well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuHVQ6ag8Bo

The same user uploaded a lot of videos from the show! Other highlights for me included Anna/Luca's "Je veux vivre", Stéphane of course and Shizuka. All the skaters were great though - amazing show. I really hope to find some time tonight to post more details!

Ahhh, I saved the best for last, wonderful thread, wonderful articles/videos/et al (thanks in particular to lala as always). :encore:

And I'm so glad Princess Caroline was able to make it there with two of her children, in particular the lovely Princess Alexandra of Hanover, whom has always reminded me of Carolina (love the number with them skating as two, they look like twins!). See little Alex, there is hope for you yet, Carolina is tall & long-limbed and built like you, and yet she has scaled the walls of success! :respec:

Zhenya, Zhenya, what can I say!?! There's nobody on earth like you, truly. This little tidbit whets my appetite to see what you have in store for us all as the Olympic Season progresses...

What can I say? I absolutely loved the show this year. I have been to all three editions but this one was by far the best. They are improving the production every year and they have done a really good job. The arena is an amazing venue in general, but a show like this is something so extraordinary that you end up sitting there just being in awe. The music has such power, the orchestra is excellent, so are the singers and especially the choir. They alone create such magic, but then you add in the skaters and it becomes something so beautiful.

All skaters did a great job, for them it can't be easy to perform there. In addition to the rink being quite small, it must be quite exciting for them to perform in such an arena too and you could see in their faces that they were all excited to be there. It was especially evident during the first number by Meagan/Eric. They seemed quite tense in the beginning but when the audience got behind them and started to clap to the music you could literally see their faces light up and from then on they just seemed to enjoy.
Major props to the costume designers and Salome Brunner for choreographing the group numbers. The costumes looked amazing, I actually wish some would be worn again in competition or in other exhibitions. The group numbers were well done and rehearsed well.

Stand outs for me during the show:
    * There was a moment during Stéphane's second number where they asked the audience to wave small white pieces of cloth that were included in the official program of the show. 14.000 people were waving them at the same time and it just looked so amazing! I don't know how Stéphane managed to keep skating, I would have probably just stopped to look at it lol. Needless to say, Stéphane was amazing. He is just such an artist on ice.
    * I loved Cappellini/Lanotte's first number to "Je veux vivre". It was really obvious how much they have improved, especially her, there was a very light quality to their skating and they looked beautiful. Curious to see what they come up with this season.
    * Loved the absolute silence of Shizuka's blades. You cannot hear a thing when she moves.
    * Evgeny's triple axel. It was so unexpected on such a small rink and he totally nailed it. Respect.
    * Caro's Va Pensiero for me was the absolute highlight of the show. I love that song and her skating was BIG. She has improved so much over the past seasons and it all came together in this program. There was a silence in the air during her performance that was very gripping. It was as if the entire arena was drawn into her skating. Very emotional moment of the show.

Things I could have lived without:
    * The shirtless angel during Stephane's Ave Maria. Um, ya.
    * The commentators were talking quite a lot (even though much less than last year) and they are just not good at what they are doing

The entire show will be shown on TV around Christmas again and I am pretty sure there will also be another DVD. I hope that they will also show it in cinemas again like last year.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, jiggs!!! :encore: *kisses & hugs* :40beers:

Seeing Zhenya's "Tosca" up close & personal like that left me shivering & misty-eyed (brought back wonderful memories of seeing him skate live at the 2010 Olympics). He's simply I don't know what to say, one MUST see him skate live in person to understand what I'm talking about, especially at the Olympics, there's nothing like it. His proud stance, his mannerisms, the way he stood by the side of the guard rail with the others but head & shoulders above everyone, like a diamond in the sky, a comet, a flash of blinding light!

Back to "Tosca", WOW, he looks so young & manly & dramatic, the way he touches the ice with his hand, the huge 2A followed up by the 3A! And the *fly* in his flying camel into that blur spin. Oh my...oh my....

Yes, what a huge the difference what I've read elsewhere, (or I've seen on the videos) between Jiggs's one sentence: "Evgeny's triple axel. It was so unexpected on such a small rink and he totally nailed it. Respect."
Those 14.000 people also went crazy for him (not only for Stef), when he took on the ice. The Italians extremly love him since 2005 ECH.

    google translation

"The explosion , however, is done with the tribute to Pavarotti Nessun dorma (registered, of course) : together with the Italian team materializes the star Evgeni Plushenko in the next program, with Grigolo in "E lucevan le stelle", electrifies the amphitheater. Pure dynamite in the concatenation of triples and doubles, with a magnetic stage presence. Like Messi on a football field, Iggy Pop on stage, impossible not to be hypnotized by the golden-haired Russian, that cuts the space like a knife and seems to skate twice faster than the others...."

maybe they were on different show.

Huh? Just because I only mentioned his triple axel as my highlight and wasn't praising him like an Italian newspaper I was at a different show? To be clear, I enjoyed Evgeny and so did the audience. No need to laugh about my report just because I didn't mention that.

Plushenko's triple axel and blurr spin at the end were amazing and a highlight of the entire show
In comparison to other skaters, imo, he's not musically as gifted or expresses this opera music as well as Stephane, Carolina or shizuka...he doesn't have the range or variety of movement.
I thank all the rwports and work that the people who attended the show want to share

I've never heard about a show that Plushenko performed in and the audience didn't enjoy, everybody knows how popular he is, especially in Italy. IMO Jiggs' report was very good because 3A was indeed the highlight of the performance and a prove that he is healthy and in good shape. :)

I do not know if I should laugh at such statement about Plushenko's range or musicality. But I guess it all goes down to personal tastes.

One thing is certain, you have to watch him live to be able to appreciate fully his power on ice. No video can do his skating justice. Period.
