Lots of good movies coming out this week. I was surprised that big movies like Now You See Me and After Earth did not make my original list of the major studio movies. Maybe they had not set specific release dates at that time?? But for After Earth to show up in my weekly last of smaller/independent movie releases is pretty  !! That one is at the top of my list because it's such a major release, but then we've got Clive Owen and Gillian Anderson...I'm such an Anderson uber!! :cheer2: And I always enjoy my future husband, Mr. Owen. I'm also a Brit Marling uber, so I'm glad to see her with a more major release for her newest movie, and being surrounded by such a great cast. The Kings of Summer looks like fun, and Hannah Arendt looks intense! :cheer: I'm hoping Crazy Kind of Love will be as sweet as it looks, but I'm skipping the last three movies. The "celebrating thieves" caper is  to me, I'm pretty sure that Ephraim's Rescue is a Christian film, but seems to be hiding that fact (I'm not against Christian movies, I watched one a while back that I liked alright, "The Path of Wind" - well, except one part I won't mention to avoid spoiling)...I just feel some Christian movies hide their Christian theme to get more viewers, which seems underhanded to me. And American Mary...I like horror/thriller movies but I fear this one could be a torture porn type of movie, which I can't handle.

P.S. I have the June to August thread ready to go, I will start that new thread in a couple of days if you are thinking about holding back adding to this thread so that we don't have confusion with two movie threads on the same page. And here's this week's releases:

May 31 - After Earth (Action adventure sci-fi with Will Smith and Sophie Okonedo)

May 31 - Shadow Dancer (Thriller with Clive Owen and Gillian Anderson)

May 31 - The East (Action drama with Ellen Page, Alexander Skarsgård, Julia Ormond, Patricia Clarkson, Jason Ritter and Brit Marling)

May 31 - The Kings of Summer (Comedy with new cast and Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman)

May 29 - Hannah Arendt (Biographical drama featuring Janet McTeer. From imdb.com: “A look at the life of philosopher and political theorist Hannah Arendt, who reported for The New Yorker on the war crimes trial of the Nazi Adolf Eichmann.”)

May 31 - Crazy Kind of Love (Romantic comedy drama with Virginia Madsen, Sam Trammell [True Blood], Anthony LaPaglia, Eva Longoria, Christopher Atkins and Zach Gilford)

May 31 - Now You See Me (Crime thriller with Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, Woody Harrelson and Michael Caine)

May 31 - Ephraim's Rescue (Historical drama, new cast. From imdb.com: “By listening to and following his heart, Ephraim Hanks finds his way in life and eventually provides relief and rescue to the suffering Martin Handcart Company. Based on a true story.”)

May 31 - American Mary (Horror thriller)

I rented Gangster Squad to watch tomorrow. I haven't heard good things about it but I figured even if it is awful there is still Ryan Gosling to stare at.

Yes, but I heard rumours that he is clothed at points throughout the movie. :blah:

Through most of it. I still think the movie would have been better if it had focused more on Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone`s characters. I didn't find Josh Brolin`s character that interesting.

Yeah, for a very violent movie with a good cast it was weirdly boring. My friend fell asleep.

I have such hair envy of Emma Stone.

Had to pick between "After Earth" and "Now You See Me" to screen tonight. Chose the former because I'm a sci-fi fan, but the movie could've removed the sci-fi element completely and not changed too much.

Really generic plot and okay special effects -- everything looked very CGI.

"Man of Steel" tomorrow so I'm super stoked.

Yeah, late to the game. We're rarely on time when it comes to movies

Just had to pop in to say KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNN!!

    That was fun.

I like his voice. After we saw it I was musing about how Benedict Cumbersomelastname would turn into Ricardo Montalban. And wondering whether he ever said "Welcome. . . to Fantasy Island!" on set. Gotta get dh to watch more Sherlock.

Yeah, it wasn't the greatest film ever--geez, the fight scenes just kept going and going and going. . . resolve it already!!!--but I don't go into these things with high expectations. I wait for the dumb lines from Bones and Scotty and Banter Between Spock and Kirk(TM) and stuff like that. And it doesn't hurt when several cast members are good looking (though Chris Pine doesn't do it for me. too obvious).

Ra-Ra-Rasputin, Russia's greatest love machine is Leonardo Di Caprio. Not sure how I feel about it yet.

Why am I not surprised that Leo would be playing a character who dies in the end?!

"The Lonliest Planet"-grrrrreat scenery, wweird story. Something BIG was supposed to happen and I only saw two incidents that did have implications of bigness but were sort of brushed off in the plot. Weird! did I mention the beuuuuutiful scenery? its worth watching just for that.
Believe it or not I had never seen "The Killing Fields." Well now I have and it just made me sick. War is sick. Power games are sick. We need to stop that shit like yesterday and love one another! !!! Now! !!!
