I saw Sherriff-Clayton on the list for Sr. Men at Nationals. I don't know much about him. Is he normally a pairs skater?

Dustin has skated pairs before, he just hasn't had a partner for awhile since he's very short for a male pairs skater, only 5'6 so he's going to need someone tiny who has been through puberty so the potential pool of partners is extremely small but I guess at this point all you can do is keep on looking.

I think you will see that Takara has new partner soon, interestingly we picked her to be the perfect match for Zach Dalemen but he apparently already has a pairs partner. Hope he takes well to pairs he is the perfect size. Actually him an his sister would be interesting

Zachary Daleman is doing pairs? I had thought of him for pairs but he skated in singles so well at canadians I was very impressed. Are you able to tell us who his partner is or is it hush hush..I understand if it is.

According to Facebook posts, Justine Brasseur and Mathieu Osteguy have parted ways.
There was no mention of new partnerships at this time.

Not a surprise at all that Brasseur & Ostiguy split as she just got too big for him, which happens all the time with younger teams. They'll always have that great 15/16 season when they went to Youth Olympic Games in Norway among other international comps.

Best of luck to both Justine & Mathieu in the next phase of their skating career.

To answer my own question, here's Alison Eby's IPS bio:

http://icepartnersearch.com/showbio.php?i=5804

So she's looking for a new partner too.

Hopefully we'll be hearing of new partnerships in the coming weeks!

Edited to add an updated list of notable pairs skaters on IPS:

Bryce Chudak
Pier-Alexandre Hudon
Samuel Morais
Mathieu Ostiguy
Dustin Sherriff-Clayton
Kurtis Schreiber
Josh Venema

Alison Eby
Kim DeGuise Leveillee
Bryn Hoffman
Cassandra Leung
Katrina Lopez

Katrina Lopez is on IPS as well...she was partnered with Kurtis and medalled in Novice I believe in 2016 (not sure of the exact details and I'm too lazy to look it up)

Should Wes Killing be added to this list? He is still a Canadian guy even though he's represented Japan for the last two years. His partner Marin is on IPS but he's not so I'm not actually sure if he's planning on continuing.

Thanks for info on Katrina Lopez. Now that you mentioned her partnership with Kurtis, I now remember her. So I've added her to the list of IPS'ers!

I think we're in for some really interesting matchups here such that pairs will finally have a solid reboot in Canada that will position us well for the future.

Eby and Brasseur will be highly sought after. And then looking ahead I assume Luba becomes available after Korea.

As for men I'm also keeping my eye on Michaud who I'm guessing will make a move and possibly repartner after the cycle. I also think Arcieri is immensely talented (and like Michaud even stronger than he looks) and hasn't found his perfect match yet.

The other one that I'm keeping my eye on is Boudreau-Audet who is skating for Japan. He's good and needs to get back into the mix in Canada with the list of partners available. I'll bet 50 bucks that purely on my own speculation there has been discussion about him snapping up Brasseur with the main barrier being is she ready to go senior. Not sure if she's age eligible. My research says she turns 16 on July 10...and I'm wondering if the cut off date is July 1. Too lazy to research but it may not work on that front. He's 6 ft 1 with two triples; this boy has to be coming back to us.

We need to add Portz/Purich to the list. Seems they missed nationals due to her injury but will be back on the ice.

I'd like to see someone like Emy Decelles pair with Morais or Boudreau-Audet. That just visually seems to work for me.

I think the rest will depend not just on matches but where people are willing to live and what their goals are. Can only speculate.

Eby/Chudak sounds interesting
Brasseur/Chudak are in the same camp, so....
Eby/Arcieri should be trying out in my mind. No idea why that hasn't happened.

I think a lot of dominoes fall once Brasseur repartners. I think her best matches longer term are Boudreau and then maybe Chudak and then I think Michaud could even handle her despite his height. He's just such a strong pair boy. If she's retrenching in juniors and grabs a younger guy or someone out of novice then the landscape changes.

My wild card prediction is that in 2018 Luba pairs up with Trennt.
He has beautiful lines and skating skills and similar jumps to her. He's short but strong. Has elements of Pelletier and Brubaker to his movement and style. On that front a better match for Luba than Dylan.
I also have a feeling he for personal reasons doesn't want to move too far and neither does she. Only so many solutions in Ontario. I think they could be an amazing vision on the ice.

That's my mind dump. Lots of cool stuff on the horizon. I'm sure of it.

A skater needs to be 15 by July 1 to be age-eligible for seniors. Brasseur will be age-eligible starting this July 1 for the 2017-18 season.

I did the math at lunch on which pair skater looking for a partner has has any junior eligibility left from the names on IPS (and Brasseur). Here's what I've come up with:

Bryce Chudak---None
Pier-Alexandre Hudon---3 years
Samuel Morais--None
Mathieu Ostiguy--1 year
Dustin Sherriff-Clayton---None
Kurtis Schreiber---1 year
Josh Venema--2 years

Justine Brasseur--4 years
Alison Eby---4 years
Kim DeGuise Leveillee---None
Bryn Hoffman---None
Cassandra Leung--3 years
Katrina Lopez--2 years

And @Rock2, I teamed up Luba & Trennt in my head awhile ago.

I had teamed up Luba and Drew, but I like him with Ruest. I approve of the Michaud pairing. :)

Arcieri skated at nationals with a partner already..Angelina only problem....chris wirtz is the coach.

I like Trent with Walsh...he is so stable and strong...so he could partner anybody.

Has Dylan actually said he will retire after Olympics.
Dylan had said he would skate at least until the OLympics but after that he could not say yes for sure. Has that changed?

Trent seems to be a my way or the highway kind of person judging by the breakup with Eby.

I'm not loving the Arcieri pairing. If it keeps him in the game for now that's fine by me.
She's not that tiny, yet he pitched her in the air so high on the twist. Wow...

I do feel badly trying to set Trennt up with someone else when the Walsh partnership is so new. She's doing remarkably well, so it for sure wouldn't hurt for them to finish the cycle and then see where they are at. I think he has starpower and there could be a better match out there. In fairness, if Walsh ends up being it, so be it.

I know the Eby/Michaud split was discussed awhile back. As with Kirsten and Dylan we have to remember there are soooooo many things that go into making a partnership work (or collapse). I have decided to be objective and say I just don't know the full story. So, I'm not pointing to anyone.

While I agree that Boudreau-Audet has a ton of talent and would rather see him skate for Canada, I see two potential problems with any pairing in Canada. One is that he would be forced to sit out a year. The second is funding...I would assume that he would be getting some significant costs defrayed by the Japanese fed. This situation is exacerbated by the need to sit out a year because he isn't eligible for carding while he isn't eligible to compete internationally for Canada.

I think there is also the question of competition opportunities. Skating pairs in a country that has a weak pairs programme like Japan or Finland would mean there would be a much higher chance of going to worlds I would imagine.

It's not just Worlds, it's other events too. Suto/Boudreau Audet got at least 1 Challenger Series assignment this year (U.S. Classic), 1 other fall international (Torun Cup), 1 Grand Prix (NHK Trophy, host pick), and will skate at 4CCs. If he were skating for Canada, he'd probably only get 1 Challenger Series event at best, that is until he proved himself in a new pairing, which would take at least 1 season and probably 2.
