I would really like to see Triena Robinson get an assignment...I feel she's earned it. 2016 summer series winner, 4th at Nationals and yet she still gets the shaft.

And no, I am not her mother in case anyone was wondering ;)

Ice dancer Marjorie Lajoie (partner Zachary Lagha) replied "see you there", and then I clicked on her profile and saw that she is also headed to Brisbane. So I guess Lajoie/Lagha have both their assignments confirmed.

To confirm @fan's post above, 2017 Canadian Novice Dance champions Natalie D'Alessandro & Bruce Waddell will make their JGP debut in Brisbane (with Lajoie/Lagha), according to this post yesterday on the Team Cricket (club) FB: https://www.facebook.com/teamcricke...41828.576563005833323/858194181003536/?type=3

Posted on FSU back on June 8th re. George Waddell (who I didn't realize was Bruce's older brother):
He's skating with Sasha Fear, I think splitting time between Montreal & London, and they are planning on representing GB. (Sasha's former partner Elliot Verburg is skating with Tish Marsh, training with Zueva)

I'm so confused. I thought the U.S. only had 1 junior ladies spot at each JGP this year?

USA can take someone else's slot if they chose not to fill it. For instance if a small fed decides that they'd don't have enough skaters to use all their slots this season, they can release that slot to some other nation. US can chose to take it or give it to the next in line country. Lucky for Ting.

I am surprised Ting got it. She is not the novice ladies champ, and her summer comp score isn't that high

She defeated the novice ladies champion in international competition directly after Nationals, though. And at the Broadmoor Open. (Won her group at the Bavarian Open). Makes sense that Cui is in the mix.

I'm sure S. Korea is using their spots. (Their JGP selection competition is being held at the end of this month, but they had 50 junior ladies at Nationals). If a place has opened in a ladies' event, I don't see it being from Korea. It does sound like Korea will let some of their junior men's places go, however, based on the posted criteria.

Ting is being give a slot for experience. They want talented juniors like her to get some international experience so next season they can be more prepared. They did something similar in 2015 when they gave rising juniors a chance to compete.

By my guess the following should have guaranteed slots.

Starr Andrews
Kaitlyn Nyugen (JGP Australia)
Ashley Lin
Ashley Kim
Audrey Shin

Things can change a lot during the summer. So this list may change after Philadelphia Champs.

I'm so confused. I thought the U.S. only had 1 junior ladies spot at each JGP this year?

The U.S. only earned 1 junior ladies spot per JGP, but the U.S. is first in line to take unused spots from other countries. From page 3 of the JGP Announcement:

Additional Entries
For Men and Ladies, if any ISU Member mentioned under a) to c) [Member countries whose junior world entrants finished among the top 10 nations in their event] does not use its right to enter Skaters in the competition concerned, this entry will be given to the first ISU Member, mentioned under b) for an additional entry. [The first ISU member under b) is the 4th-best nation from junior worlds, which in 2017 was the USA].

Under these rules, the U.S. could be receiving this extra spot from any of RUS, JPN, KOR, GER, HKG, CHN, SWE, FIN, GBR. My guess is that one of the European countries decided to save its money and not send an entrant all the way to Australia.

I am surprised Ting got it. She is not the novice ladies champ, and her summer comp score isn't that high

I'm not concerned at this point. Usually, USFS pairs a stronger skater with a weaker skater when they have two spots at an event. Until we know how many spots USFS will actually have, I'm not worried that a lower-ranked skater received this one. I expect the stronger skaters to have their assignments announced as the season continues.
