Floor is not her main event. Beam is.
I understand that, but every time I see her on any event, all I can picture is the cringeworthy floor choreography.

Also, I find her beam to also be cluttered with a lot of cutesy posing and hand gestures. Her skills on beam are obviously good; the flippy Zmeskal-esque hand movements are distracting and just not necessary, IMO.

Ragan would be better served with a more mature FX (and beam routine) and to reduce the amount of makeup she's wearing. I thought I heard on the broadcast that this was the last year for the Addams' Family FX, hopefully. How long do gymnasts keep their FX? Obviously longer than skaters keep their programs but is there a rule of thumb?

Oh, and is it just me, but do the leotards seem to be cut skimpier in the backside? Sometimes I wonder if the girls are wearing their bathing suits. I'm no prude but it makes it awkward for the camerapeople when half of their backsides are handing out and this goes for both elite and college ladies gymnastics.

Sacramone kept her Santa Maria FX for about 30 years so I don't think there's a rule to how long you can keep Floor music for.

Although I'd appreciate it if my fellow Americans would stop keeping their music for more than one season. It's not like they're gonna go for much beyond the tumbling anyways so might as well refresh things with new music.

*** Olympic committee asks USA Gymnastics head to resign :
http://www.indystar.com/story/news/...committee-sexual-abuse-larry-nassar/98963266/
The United States Olympic Committee board of directors asked USA Gymnastics President Steve Penny to resign, according to a USOC official who spoke to the USA TODAY Network on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter.

The recommendation came during a USOC board meeting in Los Angeles.

After that meeting, in a teleconference with reporters, USOC board Chairman Larry Probst would not tell reporters what the board recommended. He said, "It's not appropriate for us to tell you what that consensus point of view is until USA Gymnastics has had a chance to consider our input."

Probst said the board gave its recommendation to USA Gymnastics board chairman Paul Parilla. USOC officials said USA Gymnastics was not given a deadline to answer, but the board hopes it will be "sooner rather than later."

He shouldn't be the only one to resign. This whole thing needs to result in lots of people losing their jobs, not just one person. I hope this isn't a case where only one person gets punished in order mollify people and that being it. A lot of people were responsible for all these young athletes being victimized.

So - did John Orozco retire? I don't see anything official, but I'm wondering from the comments.

Sad that he didn't do as well as hoped in the 2012 Olympics and then has worst luck with injuries. But I saw an Instagram post that John was back in the gym.

Does anyone know if Leyva is going to try and continue?

It was amazing to see Ellie Downie put together not just one, but three hit all-around meets together since she hit all four events in qualifications, all-around finals and in event finals (albeit over the course of two days in event finals) and came away with four individual medals, only missing on beam where she was fourth. For someone who I had basically written off as unreliable, it's very impressive. If this does turn out to be a sign of newfound consistency and not a fluke, then I would put her as one of the contenders for the all-around title at Worlds.

I'm not surprised to hear he is scaling back. The youngsters coming up are the future of team USA and the crop that led this last quad is going to be hard pressed to stay ahead of them. Dalton, Mikulak, Naddour, Whittenburg, etc, probably would need to go for the specialists spots for 2020. I think Sam has intentions to keep up as an AA'er, but I'd be surprised to see him win another national title.

Are there still going to be six member teams for Worlds even with the Olympics going down to four-member teams plus two specialists?

I think it's 5 member teams at Worlds now unfortunately. I wish they'd keep Worlds teams at 6 members, although maybe this will give teams that are not the US a better chance at winning since no one else has that level of depth.

It's like they're forever finding ways to make sure the same countries don't dominate by chipping away at the team event only to have it not really result in that.

Yeah, that's true. I'm not saying I support the change. I'm just trying to find something positive in it because I generally feel like it's a shitty change. I would always rather see more gymnasts get to go to Worlds.

That seems to be the case. Maaaaybe they could consider revamping things to the 10.0 code again (with tweaks) so one team can't run away with things on difficulty alone :shuffle:

USAG has backed out of buying the Karolyi ranch. The statement says they will continue to lease until they find another facility.
Colorado Springs would be a good place for the girls. High altitude training could give them endurance. However, the men train up there, so I hope there won't be any business getting both teams in trouble (i.e. affairs, STDs or pregnancies).

I mean men and women skaters train together and it seems fine, right? I'd be more fearful of doctors and coaches myself. Plus it's a training camp, so I'm sure it'll be highly regimented as it was during Marta's day.

I miss the days when Worlds had nearly 200 gymnasts competing for the women alone.
