As a public service, there's a shirtless part (of course) that starts around 2:41. ;)

    No source cited, though.

Ok so I would have prefered Liz Coates but I don't know what Marika does these days. Strange.

Really? Tell me more, please. What kind of movie?

Marika coaches and does choreography at Deeside in Cheshire, Joan Slater is head coach at the rink. She's also trained a technical specialist. I don't know that she has any high profile/international skaters though.

My French is very limited, so the best I can do is provide a link. Google translated got me the following:

Rolling Stones FD for P/B - can't wait!! I hope C/J have a better season. I felt bad for them when they didn't make the FD at Worlds.

Thanks! Looks very exciting! :) I coudn't find out if the movie is supposed to be for the TV of theatres but I hope it will end up on Youtube or somewhere once it's finished (so I can see it)!

I looked at the link for the film, and it says also that it is a short film, So probably not to be seen widely...

This is really surprising because to my knowledge Marika Humphreys-Baranova hasn't coached any higher level skaters so far.

Why would Carron/Jones (who were on a downward trajectory anyway) risk an inexperienced coach?

Marika Humphreys is an ISU technical specialist, apparently one of the stricter ones. So if - and it is still if as there hasn't been any official confirmation yet that Carron/Jones indeed moved to England to train with her - they have switched to her they are probably hoping to improve their technique. Low levels held them down. The choreography of some programs didn't help either. I wouldn't say that Marika Humphreys is an inexperienced coach even if she didn't have any skaters yet that competed at the European or World level. Carron/Jones might turn to someone else for choreography.

And it's probably easier for them to train in England than in America without funding.

Oh yeah I didn't mean to talk Marika down. I know that she's one of the toughest callers out there and I have no idea how much experience or skills she has as a coach.

It just surprised me that a pair of their calibre risked going to somebody without a track record of training elite level dance team.

But you are right Eislauffan - they can always hire somebody else for choreography and focus on getting higher levels on their elements as that's been an issue for them for a while now.

I remember they choreographed their FD (or both programs) themselves once. But maybe that wouldn't be such a good idea. :p

And whilst UK is definitely not a cheap place to live or train, the coaching fees are definitely lower than in the US.

Deeside ice rink is in Wales, not England! Doesn't Marika H-B train tech specialists for the ISU? So, if anyone could recognise a level 4 step sequence it would be her.

    Some news about Joubert:
-he took a 3 week break, except some light running
-he is keeping the same SP, but will skate the long to Inception
-he will be in Courchevel with the French team for the last 2 weeks of July
    - the Poitiers rink is closing and he will share his time between 3 rinks in Niort, Tours and Paris. Patrick Gueppe, one of his coaches, is in Tours. Guyon is at another rink in Chatellerault, but Brian does not want to go there, because the rink is too small. He still wants to work with Veronique though. In Paris, he will train with Annick Dumont's group.
    - This season is important but not major for him (Not sure how to properly translate "capitale"). He will get a lighter competition schedule (Not sure if he is talking about the GP, the French masters/Nationals, or Senior Bs, but I am afraid he means GP)
mella and (deleted member) like this.

Reports elsewhere have indicated that Joubert will rework the SP with DenStavs - I'd prefer for him to get a new one entirely, but considering how unsettled his training situation is going to be, I'll cut him some slack. It sounds like it's going to be a serious hassle it until they complete the new rink in Poitiers.

Joubert has also said somewhere else, I think in a video interview, that he really wants to qualify for the GPF so that he can skate in Sochi this coming season. I don't think he plans on skipping his GPs.

Ok, I'll give it a try but that's not my favorite exercise!

    “What happened?”

Nathalie: “I don’t know. You should ask Fabian. Where is he?! (…) Of course I’m angry. Had it happened at a grand prix event, it wouldn’t be the same..Here for the first time we had a shot to medal, and we missed it.”

Voiceover: “Forget it. NP & FB won’t medal at the world championships, at least not this year.”

“It was mostly my fault, and I can’t say I’m proud of this.”

Nathalie: “You know it happens sometimes, that’s sports. I’m not blaming him. The thing is, we had a great season, and we’re ending it on this.. ”

Voiceover: “Tonight, Chaplin made people cry and the city lights made room for ‘darkness’. Third after the short dance, NP & FB seemed to float. 2’11 of happiness in another world, before crashing back on Earth. One fall on their footwork sequence. One fall and it was all over. Too many points lost. The podium just slipped away.”

Journalist: “When you fall, what’s going through your mind?”

    Fabian: “You feel like swearing”.

Nathalie: “Well, you actually want to wake up from that nightmare.”
Fabian: “You try to pull yourself together immediately but you know it’s over.”
Nathalie: “No, when you make a mistake on a circular (step sequence) or any technical element, you know it’s done.”

Voiceover: “Yet, NP & FB conclude their program with dignity and beauty but they rank 4th, just off the podium.”

Nathalie: “It’s gonna be very difficult to get through the next two days. At the Europeans, it was just bliss. Here, it’s gonna be tough to wake up tomorrow and come to terms with it.”

Voiceover: “Reigning world champions, and winners of two grand prix events, NP & FB just missed their first world podium, when they had a real shot at it.”

“We’ve had a great season and now we’re finishing it on this. That’s tough to accept. I have the feeling that somehow it erases all the great performances we’ve given this season.”

Joubert: “You have to accept it. Deal with it.”

Voiceover: “The French team leaves Moscow exactly as in 2005…without any medal.”

But it isn't clear yet that the Russian Fed will release her... Well, I just hope she has a good career with Kocon.
