Adelina looks out of Shape to me. I don't mean the way that new programs make every skater look
In the off season but more like not having the fire for competition out of shape. From a preference standpoint, her entrances and exits from
the jumps still don't look very smooth and her stroking still doesn't look smooth. She has very
Clean and correct jumps but the skating in between still needs work. She HAS learned how to perform better in that she's more audience aware which is good.

I like the music but the choreography looks like it overwhelms her. Peter giving her a more masculine character was superb because Adelina can pull that off and make it still look flirtatious. I hope this program evolves into what Peter imagined it to be.

Obviously a bit too early to draw conclusions but I am very disappointed that she will not be in the GP circuit (assuming that she will not get any of the TBD slots either). From one of the interviews earlier this year, I got the impression that she was very serious about her comeback and that she sort of had unfinished business on the ice (World medal?)..
I do not think she has Yuna caliber (or even Michelle Kwan) to turn up at Nationals with only a few or none competitions prior..
But this is pure speculation and perhaps her team are targeting the Challenger Series that seems to become more and more popular?
I thought she had developed tremendiously last year in terms of artistic skillsand some of her SP's were great. It seemed that conditioning was her biggest obstacle at that point and that if she could work hard on her conditioning, it would set her up very well for this season..

Maybe. Volo/Trankov have same decision they won't compete in GP serie.
To be honest i don't see them being that serious about competing either. If so they need to ramp up the difficulty like the other teams and i don't see that happening if you only compete a couple times a year.

While I was hopeful earlier, I'd rather she not compete and let others rack up some achievements. Frankly, I think she needs to switch coaches if she's really serious about competing as her current one is too much like a 2nd mom.

Oh gosh. I am worried :(

Well there's probably a reason she touring up until a week and a half before nationals and why Buyanova took on new students :shuffle: We should know in a few weeks if she's really competing since the only option for Senior Bs for her would be in October. If she just shows up to Nationals well.....:slinkaway

Well yes, of course her schedule is quite...(let's say) busy, but honestly I didn't expect her jumps to be this bad. I knew she had some problems with them after her foot injury and in particular last season, but I really hoped she'd gotten more consistent. From this video, though, it does not seem so - and her skating too doesn't seem to me as smooth at it used to be, nor as fast.
I'm sad actually, because even if I wasn't her fan at first (and again at first I didn't understand her winning in Sochi, whereas now I do) she really was the best in Russia, at least in my opinion. She always seemed serious in her intent of coming back to competitions and I always felt that she would come back stronger than ever when she chose to actually get her head in the game and commit, but between the schedule and the video now I'm having pretty big doubts myself that she ever will. I hope I'm wrong, of course.

I'm getting the sense she's not really coming back either. It sucks because she's a fabulous skater. She's the only Russian in the ladies field who really looks like a woman out there on the ice. Evgenia and Elena still lack that level of maturity, Anna has it but she lacks the polish Adelina has, Liza T's not even close presentation wise. Adelina is gorgeous to watch. Great speed, edges, great spins, big jumps, beautiful skating skills (flow, ease of movement), great presentation and performance skills and even when her programs are a little iffy she still performs...

It's just the jumps. She jumps big but her technique has always been a bit unstable and a little wild. Given how cutthroat the Russian field is I don't feel as though Adelina has a real shot of getting back to that top 3 unless she's able to find an insane amount of consistency. Judging by her schedule she's doing lots of appearances and undoubtedly making good money in the process. I wonder if she has anything to really gain by coming back?

I'd love to see her competing again but I just don't think it's in the cards for her.

Sorry to see Adelina struggling. I was one who felt she shouldn't have won in Sochi but, for me, it was Carolina who deserved gold. JMO. At any rate, the top three ladies in Sochi skated very well.

To this day the Yunabot-uber fans say horrendous, despicable things about Adelina. It's horrible. A part of me wants her to make a comeback and skate lights out at the next Olympics, but I can't even imagine how she would be received by the mosly Korean audience, let alone how she would handle the probable abuse.

I'm starting to think she's still on the national team "only" because of her Olympic gold, just as Plushenko has been for many many years. She's always said that she wanted to show that her victory wasn't just a lucky chance and that it wasn't the end for her such as it was for Lipinski and other skaters who won an Oly when they were very young, but only a new beginning - and I believed her, that's what I meant when I said she seemed serious about coming back. Now I really don't know, it seems to me that she needs to focus on training instead of doing shows and shows. She's probably made A LOT of money by now.

This is why I really wish we had a proper Pro circuit in figure skating. There are so many skaters who still want to compete but can't at the highest level. Adelina still wants to prove herself, I admire this.

The difference though is Plushenko and even Lipinski won everything there was to win so their victories were seen much less as a fluke. She never really won anything major internationally since she turned senior (aside from a senior B) and was only 9th at her only Worlds appearance - so I suppose she still feels like she has more to prove.

I wish she would stay healthy and actually make a strong come back. She really is the best Russian lady right now. The others all skate like robots. She skates like a woman and beautifully to the music (esp. post Sochi).

Yes, of course. What I meant in doing my comparison was simply that Plushenko has been on the national russian team for years and years even when he wasn't competing and didn't have any intention of doing so but rather to tour (i.e. 2011, 2012-2013, except the 2012 Euros and his back injury). That's the same feeling I'm getting now from Adelina, but again I'm not her, I don't know her and I hope I'm wrong.

Another unfortunate factor is that the Russian ladies field is so deep right now that there really isn't much motivation to just come back strong and then only place 5th at Nationals and miss the team again. Plushenko from 2006 to 2014 never really had that problem.

Agreed. I think her motivation to really dig in and compete would be higher if the Russian field was weaker. It wouldn't take so much to get her to the top...but as we know the Russian field is twice (if not three times) deeper than any other country so it'd be extremely difficult for her to do enough to get back into that top 2.

I think you're equally right and wrong. Yes, the field is deeper in Russia than everywhere so it's more difficult to make the team, but if she were able to make it she'd have a fairly certain chance at getting at least on the podium at Euros or Worlds. If you beat the competition in Russia you're already at the top everywhere else, so I'm not sure about the competition in her own nation to be really a factor here. If she wants to proof herself she has to win some medals at worlds and/or euros, she can't just make the team and then finish 5th or so anyways. She still has to get into her best shape.
Let's also remember that euros and world spot are given to the top 2 athlets but the 3rd is decided by Russian federation. If she skated well in the test skates she could get the 3rd spot even by not placing on the podium at nationals, just as it happened with Plushenko for (I think) the 2014 Olys.

Yes. Official page: http://212.sk/?q=node/34

But I don't think will be more Kings on Ice shows in this year. Plushenko and his team prepare to the Nutcracker show. But after many Adelina's performances on KOIs, I wouldn't be surprised if she plays a role in the Nutcracker show .. we will see.;)
