2013 Eurovision Grand Final - Holding out for a zero!

It's ok. It's not my absolute personal favourite, but I can certainly live with Denmark being the winner, much better than Ukraine and Azerbaijan, I just don't get the love for those constructed, bland songs. How I wished Anouk would've won!!! So what, at least all my favourites became Top Ten, and once again Cascada is right there where they belong! Congratulations to my countrymen, they actually dared to give Hungary 12 points, I'm not alone, hard to believe .... An expected end, but it won't help, congrats Denmark, congrats Emily!

well, Denmark won. I should be happy, but the atmosphere of victory around this song really discouraged me from it... But at least tonight she sang better than in the semi...

    Some other random commments:

Shame about Anouk. She'd be a perfect winner for me.
I'm glad Hungary and Italy were appreciated by Europe.
Ukraine was nice, as well. And, I'll be honest, I liked Azerbaijan :shuffle:.
    Thank heavens Greece didn't win.
Norway was weak live once more :(. What about my dreams, Margaret?
Cascada was relatively decent vocally. Bonnie, unfortunately, not so.
    Spain was a total trainwreck!
And I'm sending a hug to Ryan and, especially, his dancers :p. He didn;t sing that bad and deserved a better place!

Btw, I loved all the queer elements: gay marriage twice plus Petra's comment about Linda Martin ("I always recognise a drag queen when I see one" :D :D :D).
And I adored the moment when Carola was literally captured in a stormwind and sweeped off the stage .

    See you in Copenhagen then!

Apparently Denmark won the first semi and Azerbaijan the second. Haven't seen the full results of the semis anywhere yet, though.

Tack for a great show, Sweden! Looking forward to Copenhagen next year.

This is what I'm saddest about. She was so close :( San Marino deserved the final so much more than Georgia did.

A cookie cutter ballad presented extremely well. How is that a mystery? After I've seen all of the performances, I thought it was a very safe bet that Denmark would win and Azerbaijan would come second (I also thought that Georgia would finish 3rd but that I was definitely wrong about that ;p).

Her vocals were really off-key throughout - she was nowhere near hitting the high notes in the choruses both in the jury and the live finals - and the performance looked extremely awkward, with her just standing there while her dancers were totally rocking it out. I was expecting it to finish dead last.

Ireland last! Why does the rest of Europe hate us so much? It's all jealousy of our half naked dancers I tell you! :drama:

And I actually thought Ireland was OK enough, certainly better than some others (like Spain Armenia, Lithuania)

I'm surprised Georgia didn't do better. Or Estonia. She sang beautifully.

Oh, no, everyone hates Germany! :lynch:
German biggest tabloid this morning says, it's probably all Merkel's fault ... :drama:
Whatever! :blah: We may send horrible entries, but at least our votes have been tasteful :p
    (12 points to Hungary :cheer2:) ...

Meh result. Dislike! Italy did ok again. Top of the Big 5. The French singer had a good song but her stage presence and charisma are non-existent. Hence the result. Interestingly, all the ex-Yugo countries gave Denmark 12 points except Croatia which gave it 10, total 58 points from them alone :O

 Tell us how you really feel, Ziggy. I hadn't been following at all this year but looked it up on YouTube. As someone said upthread, it would be a mid-popular indie love song for sad college girls here. Maybe. It wasn't atrocious.

He was partly off-key, wasn't hitting the high notes and I still think that the presentation of the song is a chaotic mess.

How could you possibly call that song 'an indie song?'

It pretty much follows the 'how to write a winning Eurovision song' recipe.

An ethno ballad with a cheesy flute hook, 'organic' presentation and a really flat delivery which was OTT emoting throughout and showed no variation or light and shade.

Nah, the rest of Europe was just jealous of our fine hot men. :drama:

Well, it worked then I guess. Mission accomplished. :shuffle:

I think I know how you feel. Last year we sent Tooji and thought he'd do OK, and he came dead last. We were all like "how the hell did that happen? He didn't deserve that!!" :(

Ireland certainly didn't deserve last place. I loved your song. Heck, I gave it 12 points in the semi!!! And the dancers were super hot! :swoon:

Rhetorical question, but has the government of Azerbaijan not got more important issues? I love Eurovision, but that is seriously ridiculous.

    Thanks! :encore:

But I wasn't really upset. Someone has to finish last innit. ;)

Maybe we can come back strong like Norway this year although I have my doubts that we will. :shuffle:

That has to be up there with Terry Wogan blaming the Iraqi war in 2003 as the reason the UK got zero points that year.

It's going to be a hat-trick for Valentina Monetta! :cheer:

Valentina Monetta to represent San Marino in 2014

San Marino seems to perceive their Eurovision participation as a good way of promoting their country. They were also very happy with her performance this year saying 'Valentina did everything she possibly could. To us, she won.' Valentina also seemed to be having a great time this year and the song was very well liked by Eurovision fans (but apparently not anybody else :p).

Hopefully her 2014 performance will be even more epic. :D
