"Free 90 Minute Facebook LIVE Skating Event" (Saturday, June 24)

Format & rules (3 wildcard slots will be determined in the MK Blades Aerial FS Championship, part of the Broadmoor Open club competition on Friday, June 23, for the main team event the following day): https://www.facebook.com/AerialFigureSkatingChallenge/posts/711697625699339

ETA: https://www.facebook.com/AerialFigureSkatingChallenge/posts/711696542366114

Name: The Aerial Figure Skating Team Challenge (AFSTC)
Where: Broadmoor Open, Colorado Springs, Colorado
When: Saturday, June 24, 2017

Format:

Teams will consist of one captain, 2 ladies, 2 men, 1 pair team and 1 wild card entry selected from the skaters who place in the top 3 at the AFSC. The AFSC event will be held on Friday, June 23. The AFSTC will be held Saturday, June 24.

Each team, under the direction of the team captain, will create their own name.

The captains for the inaugural event will be Jeremy Abbott, Ryan Bradley and Tim Dolensky. They were chosen as captains because they will each represent their team in the back-flip division. As Team Captains, they will select the singles skaters and pair team in a draft held before June 1 based on the entries received at that time.

On the day of the event, each skater will demonstrate various aerial skills (jumps, throws, twist and back flips) according to a skating order during two rounds of competition.

A panel of celebrity judges (including former U.S. champions) will score each skill performed based on a scale of 1-10. There is no base value assigned to each element. Rather the judges will score based on difficulty, quality and personal flair.

No programs/choreography will be used for the event. Music will be used for the warm up. Skaters may create a playlist and submit this to be played when they are performing their skills if they choose.

Team Prize Money:
Total Prize Money: $30,000; prize money is split between the team
- 1st - $15,000
- 2nd - $10,000
- 3rd - $5,000

Looking forward to this-the change in format should improve the spectator value. The multiple jump re-trys allowed before made it kind of tedious to watch.

Yessssssssssssssss it's a team format now

And I can't even pick one team to cheer for

Max vs Josh vs Jason

:watch:

I'm interested in the presence of the pairs teams! This adds a new dimension.

I like Facebook Live better than whatever they were using last year, because you can go back and re-watch Facebook Live videos. Last year if you missed the stream, it was tough luck, which made me sad because I had to go out before the competition ended and I never got to see the final rounds.

Team Bradley is the early favourite for mine, but I just have to cheer all three teams :D

Don't know how the event will be scored, similar WTT but judging jumps only? Team Abbott and Team Bradley will likely duel it out with Team Abbott on top.

Farris (4T, 4S and 4Lo?) < Zhou (4Lz, 4F and 4S)
Savary (4T and 4S) > Aaron (4S)

Nagasu > Wang
Lin > Rydberg

Knierim & Knierim > Liu & Johnson

Savary (4T and 4S) > Aaron (4S)

Unless you have news I don't, I've not heard anything about Josh even attempting a 4Lo, let alone landing it. And in the Savary v Aaron fight it could well be more like Savary (4T and 4S) < Aaron (4S, 4T, 4Lo). Plus, we don't know what else people have been cooking up over the off-season. Perhaps Max has decided to upgrade his stunning triple Lutz into something more.

I hope they stick with ISU IJS rules about GOE. Whatever they do, I hope they let all the competitors know the rules prior to the event.

I'm not clear on who gets the "Wild Card" slots.

Team Bradley looks strong-but Team Dolensky has a previous winner (I think?)

Regarding the Wild Cards, there's a non-team-format competition prior to the team competition, the MK Blades Aerial FS Championship. The top 3 in that earn the Wild Card slots, one per each of the three teams.

If it's still as blatantly UR as that video getting around she'd be better off not.

Do you think she knows 100% before she even tries it will be underrotated for every attempt in the future she will ever do?

I think this is a low risk competition with a low risk competition format where she should try because it is probably part of the point of the competition.

... Who knows? Maybe she won't do a 3A-2T, but she might just get a rotated 3A out.

--------------

I have spent a good portion of my life being unwilling to try some things because I knew I would not be perfect in my attempt. I am over it, and I hope others will be over it sooner rather than later.

Press release: http://web.icenetwork.com/news/2017/06/01/233796234/brown-nagasu-headline-lineup-at-aerial-challenge
U.S. Figure Skating will stream the event via Facebook Live, and icenetwork will provide on-demand video to all users -- no subscription required.
The event is broken into two parts: an individual competition on Friday, June 23, and a team event on Saturday, June, 24. In the former, skaters will take part in elimination rounds, with only one chance to land the mandated jumps. A total of $5,000 will be awarded to the top three ladies and men.
Saturday's team competition will feature both singles and pairs. Each team has a designated captain and will consist of two ladies, two men and one pairs team. The team captains are four-time U.S. champion Jeremy Abbott, 2011 U.S. champion Ryan Bradley and Team USA competitor Timothy Dolensky.

They seem to have last minute issues every year-is it poor planning or what? Does anyone have info on why this came up at the last minute again?

Did an entity pull funding after committing ?

Does anyone know if this will be live streamed in view of their announced financial difficulties?

And a bit OT, but is there a way to find out whether any of jump team members will also be competing at Broadmoor?

Okay first round men

Max
3A-1Lo-3S. The 3A was so huge, so light, and he looked so open, that at half a glance it looked like a double.

Camden
3A-1Lo-3S on his toe, pitched forward, nearly fell

Timothy
3F-3T 2ft, got caught up
RETRY
3F-3T< really hard fall

Emmanuel
2F whoops
RETRY
3F-3T-2T really nice

Ben
3Lz fall
RETRY
3Lz hand down-1Lo-3S

Jordan
3A wonky-1Lo-3S

Alexei
3F-3Lo-3Lo WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW!
Perfect score! 19.00!

Paul
3Lz-2T-3T< 2ft
RETRY
3Lz-1Lo-2S (he did NOT mean to do that 1Lo...it was a whoops. But well-saved!)

Jimmy (why is he wearing a baseball cap lolwat)
3A step out
RETRY
3A fall ouch!

Alex
3Lz-3T 2ft-2T

After the first round, Alexei leads from Max - those two were the definite standouts! Jordan is third, if I remember the scores right.
