I suspect that the humour was designed to avoid comparsions with Sean Connery.

While my favorite James Bond is Brosnan, I really enjoyed Moore in the role and I was a fan of the show he did with Tony Curtis. The German translation had a lot of wit and charm.
May he rest in peace.

I liked him as Bond, just because he never took it too seriously and it was always tongue in cheek. Sad to hear of his passing.

I really enjoyed The Saint. I liked him better in that than in the 007 Movies.

But definitely not my least favorite Bond. I preferred Connery all the way and then maybe Daniel Craig. But then Moore. So there are some below him.
