^^^ Ashley Wagner was quoted as saying in her article, linked in post #273:
The skater also has no regrets about announcing her probable choice on Instagram back in February.

“Oh, a million skaters are going to use ‘La La Land,’” she laughed. “I just wanted to at least put it in people’s heads I was going to skate to it. … It feels very hopeful, and that’s what I really like.”
Before Worlds, Misha Ge shared 4 clips of an exhibition program he choreographed for himself to the "Epilogue" from La La Land that he has yet to debut in public:

Part 2: https://www.instagram.com/p/BRpVyYThPL5/
Part 3: https://www.instagram.com/p/BR5rT4khOBh/
Part 4: https://www.instagram.com/p/BR5sqqthUuC/
I'm looking forward to seeing this program performed for a live audience. :)

Not surprisingly, Misha Ge has been busy choreographing for other skaters since Worlds. He has choreographed new short programs for Elizabet Tursynbaeva (photo of them at Plushenko's academy rink: https://www.instagram.com/p/BS72eE4BqMt/ ) and Greece's Demetra Koris (clip: https://www.instagram.com/p/BTO0WjRBMY0/ ), and a FS for U.S. junior (JGP competitor) Eric Sjoberg to Khachaturian's Spartacus - clip of the final section with Misha instructing him: https://www.instagram.com/p/BTLgWoVh7vt/?taken-by=mishage8&hl=en

The movie is AWESOME, haterz. I hope there are dozens and dozens of programs to it. I hope there are at least ten La La Land programs for every whiny post about it. :p

I love musicals, and La La Land is a good choice, just not repeatedly in the same competition, but that can be said (and often is) of any musical piece or choice, IMHO, and we’re kind of use to that, aren’t we? ;) It's ok. It works out.

I think AW had first dibs on it, didn’t she? Not that it matters, but she’ll do a good job w/ it, I’m sure. So, I hope she keeps it.

ETA: It is safe to assume that there may have been another skater or two kicking it around, so good thing Ashley was quick to mention it.

Let's have it be a mandatory piece of music for all skaters in either their short or long. And then the other one can be Carmen!

I've not seen the movie, only a few clips. Is it as twee, vapid, and saccharine as it looks? Because if so, then I'm :scream:
I had the good fortune of attending many musicals during my childhood, and I can tell you that they are quite impressive on the stage. However, ITA w/ your opinion regarding saccharine musicals. Those can be very painful to get through! And I'm speaking as one who has been to more than a few. Luckily, the good did outweigh the bad.

The big challenge about choosing a musical selection (to skate to) like La La Land, is trying to successfully capture the right mood, tone, temperment, and, if possible, a realistic character interpretation on the ice. This can be a tall order, very tricky. It is an ambitious choice, IMHO, for sure. But, I am confident that AW's team will work something out. And, also, because Ashley is not new to musicals. If it doesn't appear to be working out, I say do a 180 degree turn and go for Pink Floyd, again! Not a recycled piece, though. Choose another song selection from them.

Despite my aversion to vocals, if you're going to do one -- Pink Floyd works!! (y)

More on Ashley. ;) In this article, she says that La La Land is the plan for next year's LP ... but reserves the right to change her mind. Choreography on the LP has not begun yet. Ashley says that she and Shae-Lynn Bourne will consider other music options as well. (I suspect this will make some people happy!)

I hope so, I don't like the music for her. This is probably her last season and her last free skate program.

His page on Wikipedia; he worked on 'Hamlet' in Bolshoi in 2015
I apologize for my cultural ignorance...So does this mean they will do balletic programs next yr? I know this is not the best thread for this but I IMO I saw them as being very slow this yr..without energy. I realize I was not correct as people who do know what they are talking about described them as fast. Is it possible they were maybe heavy on their blades?

That's an interesting direction for Bobrova/Soloviev to go in. I enjoy them, but I don't really think of them as balletic. In fact, I wished they'd go much more in a modern dance direction.

Stolbova/Klimov worked with a ballet choreographer (Yuri Smekalov) on their programs this year & they're obviously much more modern dance influenced.

Just look Radu up on Youtube - he does plenty of modern dance. I mean, he founded the Kyiv Modern Ballet Theatre...
