"Vertical stringiness"?

:COP:

"Vertical jump"! :duh:

:giggle:

Thanks for bringing the typo to our attention (springiness). To make it available asap, the interview was translated by someone who is not a native speaker.

 Just be grateful a translation was put up so fast. The original interview is in French and also available through the site.

If you don't want incomprehensible translations mocked, don't post links to them.

In this case, the original incorrect word choice ("springiness" for "spring," perhaps) was compounded by the typographical error. I am still trying to imagine what Vanessa James's "vertical stringiness" would be.

This interview is far from incomprehensible. Volunteers travel the world on their own money, using their annual leave and working hard through the night to provide articles, interviews, pictures and translations in a timely fashion - often working harder during competition weeks than they do their day jobs. As mentioned many of them are not native English speakers. It's one thing to pick up on a typo, but another to be unkind to the author IMO.

You're rude, and not in a fun way.

There are FSUers who post translations, here and on other websites. I'm grateful to them for sparing me the need to Google Translate, even if their efforts are imperfect. Having done some translations myself, I know how challenging it can be.

If the whole translation is incomprehensible to you, then you are definitely the one with a problem. Ridiculing people's efforts once was enough. The person who did the translation is fluent in Turkish (her native language), French, English, Spanish and Italian. She translated an interview made in a foreign language in another foreign language. Would you be able to do that ? I would not.

In this case, the original incorrect word choice ("springiness" for "spring," perhaps)
Of course for "spring" it doesn't take a rocket scientist to get it. Why all the sarcasm ? "Stringiness" is a term that actually exists.
It describes the elasticity of something that can be stretched before returning to its original size, it is a measurment of elastic recovery. Nobody will stretch MB Meité to see how far she can go before returning to her original length :) but the friend who did the translation is a physicist engineer, I suppose this is why the term sprang to her mind (pun intended) I will not change it to "vertical jump" (even if as a freestyle skier and coach I took and made people take the Sargent test - btw I think DG is wrong, Maé's test result should be far superior) because it's understandable enough, it makes me smile and I'll show respect to the girl who volunteered to make and post the translation in less than 1 hour yesterday night when I had no time to do it, being busy with Junior Natls and Bavarian Open.

I am still trying to imagine what Vanessa James's "vertical stringiness" would be.
The skater concerned is Meité and not James. We may not be able to provide flawless translations, but since you can't read we're even. :D

I'm surprised, because until now I had always pegged you as someone cool and funny. Except if someone from my website inadvertently peed in your poutine and actually deserves your acrimony, here you're really being a mean jerk. Yes, we make mistakes, we are not perfect even if we always try to do our best. We own our mistakes and will be the first to laugh at them. (Maé's alledged "stringiness" set me into a fit of giggles but my friend had already corrected the typo if not the term by the time I checked) So ridiculing our work for one clumsy word is a low blow.

That being said, I'd be more concerned by some of DG's ideas than by how high skaters can jump :shuffle:

France has a 4th pair? Where did that come from?
Cleo HAMON / Denys STREKALIN were the only junior pair that competed at Junior Nationals in February: http://www.cergy-patinage.com/saison2016_2017/chFjun2017/CAT003RS.HTM

Coline KERIVEN / Noel Antoine PIERRE were invited to compete in Senior at the same comp.: http://www.cergy-patinage.com/saison2016_2017/chFjun2017/CAT006RS.HTM
Here's an article about them with photos (from last year?): http://www.champigny94.fr/portraits...t-noel-antoine-pierre-viser-la-premiere-place

Has Nathalie done/received her certifications to become a judge? I recall she mentioned an interest in judging.

Thank you Eislauffan.
Great interview.

About switching coaches for Zimmerman, I think that it did them a whole lot of good.
They needed a real pair coach, not a single one with some pair experts' occasionnal input.
Unsurprisingly, it has made a great difference for them.
Too it didn't happen earlier.

It seems Papadakis and Cizeron have been working with Jeffrey Cirio this past week.

Cirio recently became a principal dancer with American Ballet Theater and was formerly a principal with the Boston Ballet. He's a beautiful classical dancer but also has a smaller, more contemporary dance company on the side called Cirio Collective for which he does the choreography. No specifics on what they were working on, but personally I'm excited by this collaboration since I quite like his dancing.

In the german article about Fentz getting Chafik's SC spot, it was mentioned, Chafik has problems with his lungs.
Does anybody knows more? Something serious?

He had trouble breathing, withdrew from Masters de Villard-de-Lans, and was considered to be at risk for developing pneumonia.

ETA: He has a collapsed lung, has been hospitalized, and may need to undergo surgery (or may have undergone surgery since this article was published).
