They have a press preview on the radio each night and they quoted one newspaper which stated that the FIFA has more pressing matters to attend to than extending the World Cup like the corruption within the league and the controversial location of Qatar. I thought that was a pretty good point ;)

Maybe but that don't seem to be their focus at all. And FIFA is still not open and transparent. This tournament expansion is all about making FIFA and it's cronies as much money as possible. They have irrevocably damaged the image of the World Cup and they don't seem to care.

USA 0 v 0 Serbia. A friendly in San Diego. USA had a weak, poor performance. They play another friendly against Jamaica on Feb 2, 2017 and resume play in the Hex (the USA is in last place) in March. Their chances of going to the WC in Russia in 2018 very much depend on getting 6 points in March. Their performance against Serbia did not inspire confidence.

And the U.S. just beat Honduras 6-0. I wish I knew what the U.S. men had for lunch before the start of the match.

This was quite fortunate that the injuries were somewhat minor. I have a bad feeling this wont be the last time a soccer team is attacked.

Attacking a sports team gets these sickos a lot of free publicity. So I fear you are right.

About the attack on the Dortmund team - radio news are reporting that the suspect isn't connected to the attack on the team. He does have ties to extremists but they're not related. They're also saying that they're back to investigating all angles and are increasingly doubtful that the letters were written my Islamic terrorists. They're not excluding Islamic terrorism, however, they're saying that the demands made are more consistent with right-wing extremists.

They were reporting that the Dortmund players had a police escort to the airport and even a chopper in the air to secure the airport area. I can't imagine how they must feel... On the good news front though, the player who was injured was released from the hospital on Saturday. No new leads on who commited the attack. The Tagesspiegel (Berlin newspaper) received another "We did it" letter from what looked to be right-wing extremists. I don't know where they are in confirming its authenticity though.

Dortmund did have a pretty good game on Saturday, so maybe they can pull off a surprise win tomorrow. Wishing them the best of luck!
