Let's curate a video gallery of :inavoid: :smokin: ice revue and exhibition skating voids.

The parameters are loose - any time any place, from historical to hysterical, from Eva Pawlik to Eman to some unknown yet :smokin: OES.

Selections could be from Ice revues, the cinema, Russian television, or even a particularly voidy program from a local ice show.

As it is show skating, (if possible) good quality picture and sound is desired. Featured skater IDs, show date, and a little bit of background information would be helpful, although not mandatory.

Anyway, Here We Go! - have at it and post some of your favorites. I'll post a few right now to get started, and will soon select some :glamor: voids of times past from the :sekret: Central European figure skating vaults. ;)

First off, big thanks to everyone involved, from the video capturers, posting scavengers - and of course the skaters, choreographers, directors, music arrangers, costumers, etc. who provided the voids in the first place. :encore:

I guess it is almost obligatory to start with a Sonja Henie video, being that she was an inspiration to so many skaters past and present. Here is an HD version of a classic, the Finale of Sun Valley Serenade (1941)

One of my all-time favorites is the extremely talented and voidy British skater Belita . These clips are from the film Suspense (1946) Part 1 and Part 2 . Additionally, a very interesting, candid (and cheeky) Belita interview (circa 1970s)

    Enjoy...

Voidy show skating = Toller Cranston for me. Here's his fabulous firebird at MSG in 1983. So many more, especially his specials such as The Magic Planets and Strawberry Ice. I mean you just can't outvoid that!!! :inavoid: :cheer: :inavoid:

    What does voidy mean?

    Cheesy? Rare? Forgotten? Tacky? Awful?

Its strictly a message board term. I've never heard a skater say it. It stems from an embarrassing Christopher Dean quote. Pretty funny actually. It has come to represent the Avante-Garde skaters. In my book, the only ones that count. ;)

Anyway, my picks are Allen Schramm, Gary Beacom, and the Duchesnays.

    Let's add this example:

As Tybalt - Toller Cranston --" Romeo and Juliet on Ice" - 1982
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=032DwlgcNHo

For those of you who don't know, he is the "villian" in "Strawberry Ice"; and truly terrifying.

Thanks! :rockstar: I was saving this spot for you.;)

No argument from me, in my mind Toller is most definitely the King of Voids. :inavoid:

I'm still waiting for someone in skating, whether it be a skater or a commentator, to break the seal on using "voidy".

"Flutz" made it to mainstream skating vocabulary, so why not? :inavoid:

Maybe they shy away from it, because it ridicules one of their own (ie. Christopher Dean).

Flutz was jargon used by skaters long before the internet.

Now, as far as I know "lip" was created by fans online as a counterpart to flutz, and I have heard it used in local rinks since.

Does anybody know who Skate Guv and Sharps are? Are they FSUniverse users? When did this historic documentary viewing take place?

sharps is SHARPIE--the board owner, then and now.

SkateGuv is a former admin who no longer posts here.

The viewing took place a long time ago.

Kurt Browning said it on the air once during commentary. And Dick Button either said it or something else from FSU once--I don't remember that one as well.

That one still makes me   all these years later!

Less laugh-worthy, but definitely in a void, I love this recent performance by Laetitia Hubert!

Laetitia Hubert "Black Shoes" at Caesars Tribute II

She's still doing her own thing (alas, without those huge :kickass: but inconsistent :wuzrobbed: triple jumps)!!

It's the 1970s :) a time when bright lemon yellow was a considered neutral and the inspiration for the men of the HOI Corps de Balett was Ron Jeremy...

Holiday on Ice (Blue Division) - In Rhythm Opening Number (1977)
Once you get over all that glorious yellow and feathers and the too-tight pantsuits :shuffle: and the rather curious music juxtaposition, you'll see a nicely executed choreographic creation from Stephanie Andros. :summer:

...and something (just a little) more sane for you all, nice solo from :hat1: Ricky Inglesi at the end of the number:

Holiday on Ice (Blue Division) - Spectrum Rock (1973)
Featured skaters: Ricky Inglesi and Mitsuko Funakoshi

I'm sure Ice Theatre of NY has some voidy stuff.
