Skaters who used same programs for two years or more

This thread was inspired by a post in the SC thread.

Many skaters have used the same program (LP or SP) two years in a row, and in rare cases 3 years in a row. As a fan I want to see a new program skated to new music every year, but I understand why skaters may sometimes want to keep the same program. Either they feel that they can do better with it, or because they want to feel more comfortable with it, or they may just love that program and can't let go.

So here is a list of skaters (IIRC) that used the same program:

M&D Liberstraum LP 91 & 92; also Don Quixote SP in 92 and 94 (did not skate in93)

B&S Dark Eyes 97 & 98 (but with many changes to the program)

B&S Citylights 2001 & 2002 (but they used Meditation at 2002 Olympics, and the 2002 Citylights had some changes to the middle part)

Irina Slutskaya 2005 & 2006 LP (not sure if I got the years correct)

Shizuka Arakawa Turandot 2004 & 2006 (Oly)

Sasha Cohen- Dark eyes SP 2005 & 2006

Alissa Csizny (sp?)- 2009 & 2010 LP (Dr.Zhivago)

Viktor Petrenko- 88 & 89 LP (Don Quixote) and 90,91,92 LP (that was a bit too much)

S&P- Love Story 2001 & 2002 Oly

Katarina Witt 86 & 87 (?)

Shen & Zhao- Turandot 2002 & 2003

Michelle Kwan- East of Eden SP 2001 & another year (can't remember which), and Rachmaninoff SP (98 & 2002?)

I think ice dance is the only discipline where I have not seen skaters using the same program, although I think Drobiazko-Vanagas did use the same FD in 2000 & 2001 (?)

Yes, Kat Witt in 1986 & 1987 West Side Story.

Kat Witt in 1984 and 1985

Sergei Dobrin in 2006 & 2007 Mask of Zorro

Janet Lynn used several cuts of the same music in 1970, 71 & 72

Linda Fratianne in 1979 and 1980 Carmen

Oksane Baiul 1993 and 1994, that dreadful showtune medley LP

Nancy Kerrigan 1991 & 92 Born on the Fourth of July

Kurt Browning 1989 & 90 Gaite Parisienne

Kurt Browning 1993 and 94 Casablanca

ETA: Vash01 - S&P used Tristan und Isolde in 2001. I believe their Love Story was 2000 and 2002.

Didn't Evan used the same Spanish-themed SP for 2 or more years?

I think Evan Lysacek used Carmen LP two years in a row. I don't remember the SP you mentioned.

Mao Asada waltz masquerade! (this year)

Shen/Zhao, 2002 & 2004 SP

Mao used Masquerade waltz for her LP last year and for SP this year. Not the same. However, I wish she would use something like Chopin which suits her lyrical style much more.

I think Jeny Meno and Todd Sand used Turandot for two seasons but can't remember the years. One of them was 94.

I wished Mao used music by Bach. It would suit her so well. Beethoven too.

Shishkova-Naumov used their Don Quixote LP twice. I don't remember the years though.

You are right about Love Story.

I kept thinking that Kurt had used same program twice, but could not come up with the program. I should have remembered Casablanca. Thanks for reminding me of this and Gaite Parisienne.

Oooh yeah I forgot about them. They used Nessum Dorma for their LP in 1993, for their Exhibition program in 1994 and then their LP again in 1995 and 1998. Their performance at 1995 US Nationals was fabulous.

I think they used Rach 2 two years in a row as well - 96 and 97.

Maria Butyrskaya kept her '97-'98 Otonal LP the following season (and won Worlds with it).

Jeffrey Buttle used his Armenian LP from 2007 in 2008 - I was glad he did, as he only got to perform it twice in '07 (Nats & Worlds) and it was a great program. There were some changes though - I liked the original version better.

I remember wishing in 2001 that Yagudin would reuse his Gladiator LP because he never skated it to its potential. MITIM worked out pretty well for him though

No. There are no deductions for using the same program, no matter how many times a skater uses it.

Witt (LPs 81-82, 84-85, 86-87), Maria B (LPs 96-97, 98-99) Sasha (SPs 01-02, 03-04, 05-06) were all "repeat Queens"
