Maybe not. Anyway it would be interesting to see what will come out of this swap .My first reaction about I/Z was" Payback is a dog with tutu and black-feathered headband" and i hope they will What S/K, Morozov & whoever did was not very decent. Besides on a beauty note I/Z will be the better looking team. Good luck to all new teams and may the best win

As much as I thought that I/K were the super-stars and the semi-godlike perfect dancers, given the history, the coach, the problems, the material they were given and (mostly her) attitude, this probably was never to happen anyway. And if one of the couples becomes the new Gorshkova/Butikov, at least I'll be entertained.

    Now, Zabiako/Zaboev - that's a loss
I really liked them. What a stupid choice for Larionov (and her). Bazarova - I don't care.

Between this and elimination of SPs, the off season is being a bit too eventful for my taste.

So, if I'm understanding this right, I/K and S/Z essentially traded partners?
It's sad. I really enjoyed I/K at the Olympics.

Zabijako - I saw them practising in Nebelhorn and thought she was a clone of Bazarova. Nice not too big jumps, great lines. Then during the competition she couldn't land a thing. Perhaps working with all the specialists the Mozer group can offer would bring her to Bazarova's level and higher quite fast. Am sorry for Zaboev and hope he can find a partner (can Leonova switch to pairs please?)

I have a feeling the I/Z partnership was fueled by bitterness and a desire for revenge. What a horrible idea! That said, I hope they win against S/K.

I'm sad - I loved I&K and thought they had such a bright future together. Schindlers List - that was the first I noticed them and I was so amazed. Whoever leaked the breakup rumour before World's sure had a scoop. Very tragic if that is in fact where Elena learned of it. It is interesting how conveniently they all have new partners. In North America there often seems to be a partner left for months - or longer - do you think the Russian Skating Federation, who claimed to be against the split. facilitated some of this?

ITA! Still, if I/K HAD to break up, I'm happy that in this way nobody's left out to dry, and bitterness/desire for revenge could lead to some potentially programs for I/Z. Plus, we at the very least might get some entertainment from S/K vs. I/Z drama if they go head-to-head. I think it was really shady what S/K/M (esp. Morozov!) did behind Elena and Ruslan's backs, so I'll definitely be rooting for I/Z next season (not sure how he'll manage her diva tendencies though - he doesn't seem the type to have patience with drama).

Ugh can't believe not only did Morozov bamboozle Elena, he then managed to do it with Nikita! I always found it strange given I/K's history how Nikita always seemed to be in awe of Morozov in the KnC ... guess it wasn't acting and he genuinely loves the dude (how? whyyyy?? sigh).

What a strange situation. And sure to get very confusing as people wonder when and where Ina & Zimmerman are competing against Stolbova & Klimov.

The good news is that ice dance finally has some drama again I was beginning to miss the love/sex/revenge triangles and partner swaps of the 90's. V/M and D/W were both too goody goody for my liking. Bring on the death stares and "accidental" clashes

This is true. Those boring North Americans, training with the same coach and barely admitting even any rivalry until the last year or so. Does Elena get to mash Victoria's head into a sink?

I can't believe I am saying this but even Zueva would be better than the Grim Reaperette duo of Kustarova/Alexeeva.

Didn't Alla Piatova remain her primary coach and Morozov was just consulting her and 'choreographing' her programs?

Zakroev is short for a pairs skater and he was not much higher than Zabijako, IIRC. Bazarova's issues go beyond 'fixing her jumps,' sadly.

Well, good luck with that!
I've watched Zabijako for a few seasons now and I think that she's a quite strong pairs skater with a lot of potential. IIRC, she's been quite consistent on the jumps, at major events anyway. So far, stars didn't manage to align for her in terms of finding a well matched partner and I imagine funding must have been an issue as well. I think she could achieve a lot in this new environment.

I thought that I/K's drama has been publicly known for a while now.

Off the top of my head:
    - Ilinykh and Katsalapov used to be a couple off-ice as well as on-ice
    - but they broke up and Ilinykh eventually became Morozov's next victim
    - but then Morozov moved on to somebody new I guess, creating an - I imagine - very uncomfortable situation (training with your two ex'es)
    - there have been accusations of I/K lacking work ethic, Diva-Ilinykh in particular which apparently frustrated Katsalapov
    - on-ice, they were never consistent

Taking all of the above into account, the split doesn't surprise me at all.

I agree with Andrey that 'on paper' they were one of the most incredible teams in the history of Ice Dance with potential that seemed absolutely huge. But things never worked out for them.

Maybe he doesn't want to continue competing with his ex? I can imagine a situation like this being potentially very uncomfortable.

I don't understand what they are thinking. They should have changed coaches ages ago.

I actually expected the rumors to be just that. And for I/K to completely dominate the field for the next few years. Their Olympic Bronze and first place in the FD at Worlds seemed clearly indicative of that. They appeared to have the judges favour for their dramatic Russian style and I thought their sloppiness and errors could be corrected.
Other Russian dance teams have endured abuses and personal problems in order to dominate or compete for dominance. I didn't think the Russian fed would let these two split up without one heck of a fight.

Much as I loved their Swan Lake, I wasn't looking forward to them dominating because I don't agree that they are so far ahead of W/P and C/L. So ice dance just got more interesting for me.

Though I do feel very sad for Ilinykh as Morozov's most recent victim. It seems to me that there should be general consensus among everyone who works with/near Morozov that girls should be warned away from him. If I was involved in FS in come capacity and came anywhere near him and the girls who might fall victim to him, I'd want to protect them from him.

And I don't know what they see him. I understand that he has the benefit of a power imbalance with teenage girls, but he's not sexy or charming in my view. Nothing exotic or alluring about him. He's just oily and creepy.

This means I don't like any of the ice dance teams anymore. I wish D&W would return to competition.

So should we get the #TeamElena and #TeamNikita t-shirts ready to go for next season?

I hope one day, the russian federation will be accountable for letting his oilyness get to all those girls. And I am using the word GIRLS.
