Hot Men Sporting Wood(en Bats) - Baseball 2014

Pitchers and catchers have reported, and zemgirl asked me to start a thread with an inappropriate title.

    Carry on.

    This is glorious

Braves off-season report: no interesting free agent signings; will get a new stadium in three years; Tim Hudson left for San Francisco (be nice to him, he's great) and McCann to the Yankees; Freddie Freeman got engaged, was rescued from the winter storm by Chipper Jones on an ATV, and signed the largest contract in franchise history; today they extended Julio Teheran for six years.

Derek Jeter is retiring at the end of this season, making it the third year in a row that a player will have a nice retirement tour. He's earned it.

    Actually, I already have.

Buster has a buzz cut again. I do not approve.

Hudson seems like a cool guy, and cool guys are always welcome in San Francisco. I'm also hoping Tim steps it back up and that signing Ryan Vogelsong again wasn't a huge mistake.

Brian Wilson, of course, decided to stay with the Dodgers.

    eta:gerb, that is hilarious.

The Braves are extending everyone! The most recent contract: Andrelton Simmons for seven years.

This is also relevant to skating, because 1. Simmons has more transitions than many skaters and 2. he's one of us

There are better looking guys in figure skating, and they don't need padding

The Braves are down three starting pitchers and the season doesn't even start for another two and a half weeks . Kris Medlen might need a second TJ surgery (I hope not) though the other two guys - Mike Minor and Brandon Beachy - are reportedly dealing with only short term problems (I hope so).

ETA: and since we're discussing good-looking ballplayers, Beachy fits right in... but I don't have a favorite picture, so you'll have to Google on your own

So the season started yesterday. At like 3 a.m. And only MLB Network carried it.

Also, the Beard pitched, but since I couldn't watch it, did he really actually pitch?

Who decided opening in Australia was a good idea?

It's the Dodgers, who wants to watch them anyway?

So it turns out that both Medlen and Beachy needed second Tommy John surgeries and I know one of the As pitchers does too. Do these surgeries now come with an expiration date?

I just wanted to see one Dodger in particular. The At Bat app final had the condensed game up, so I was able to watch. Wilson trimmed his beard! No more beard pony-tail. Which is probably good.

Apparently. But look how well Wilson's second surgery went (at least so far), so that's good? His first surgery lasted ten years (nine, technicially, you could tell towards the end of 2011 it was getting more and more difficult for him to pitch).

Apparently it's easier for relievers to come back from a second TJ than for starters like Medlen, Beachy and Parker. And Beachy never really recovered from his first. So sad, he had the lowest ERA in the majors when he went down in 2012 (and he's so nice to look at). I think Medlen, if he can come back, will be back as a reliever, and again, it's really too bad - he's been so good as a starter.

Peter Moylan also needs a second one. And we're not even out of spring training!

Tim Lincecum took a line drive off the knee last night and had to be helped off the field.

I hope the trainers were looking at his knee and said, "you know, the weight of your stupid porn stache is what's causing some of the pain. We're going to have to shave it off."

I kinda liked Lincecum's prepster look from early last season.

A young philosophy professor? A high-tech hipster nerd?

Elvis Costello? Mr. Peabody's friend Sherman?

That was Friday's fun question: Who did Tim Lincecum look like with his new short hair and faux glasses?

    Joseph Gordon-Levitt? Harry Potter?
