    I always loved him....

Spanish flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucia dies at 66

    Excerpt:

World-renowned Spanish guitarist Paco de Lucia has died aged 66 in Mexico, reportedly of a heart attack while playing with his children on a beach.
EDIT: I just want to say that Paco de Lucia was at the forefront of the worldwide rise of the popularity of flamenco music starting in the 1970s. He paved the way for neo/nuevo-flamenco artists like The Gipsy Kings, Ottmar Liebert, Strunz & Farah, Jesse Cook, et al.

He was a great artist, a genious of the Spanish guitar, and certainly changed the flamenco, opening it to fusion with other rhythms, and through his initial work with the cantaor Camarón de la Isla.

Entre dos aguas, between two waters, the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean (of his birth province beautiful and sunny Cádiz).

Como el agua (like water) with Camarón.

He will be missed and his memory respected.

Jesse Cook did a tribute and dedicated his concert last night to him.

When we lose a great musician we know that their legacy lives on -- not just in their recordings, but in the younger musicians they have inspired.

Saw it on the news yesterday. Too young to die.

This was a terrible loss to the guitar world. I always felt privileged to attend his concerts. If anybody ever goes to Algeciras, Spain, there is a statue of him down by the waterfront.
