There is no way "The Wind Rises" is going to manage to beat "Frozen" even though it's a masterpiece which is in a completely different league. It's the frickin' Oscars.

Not quite as embarrassingly awful as The Grammys but still...

I am concerned that 12 years a slave may not win for BP because of the sheer intensity of it. It reminds me of how Saving private Ryan lost to that fluff Shakespeare in love because spr was too good for its own good. It will not surprise me if American hustle wins instead. I did not like AH at all. I like Jennifer Lawrence a lot but I hope Lupita wins the supporting actress award. They announce it early in the show and it could be an indication of which way the wind is blowing.

I may be the only one that didn't care for Cate Blanchett in Blue Jasmine. I didn't like the movie, the character, and the acting in the sense it was too one dimensional. I could not feel any sympathy for Blachett's character at any time. There was no explanation for why she was the way she was, other than that she married a rich guy and became a high society gal. It didn't explain why she felt trapped in her high society life, after she lost all the money. I would have liked to see some of the other actresses get recognition during this year. I thought Meryl Streep (August) and Amy Adams (American Hustle) played more complex characters. I loved Judi Dench's innocent old lady in 'Philomena'. Unfortunately Blanchett already has her name engraved on the tropphy. I don't recall anyone else winning an award in the lead female category. It's not like I don't like Blanchett as an actress; it's just that I didn't feel this role was so great that no one else could win an award of any kind. It was sort of like Jennifer Lawrence in 'Silver linings Playbook'- it was the weakest performance in that category but she was winning every award.

I know a lot of people dislike her, and I'm not expecting this, but I'd really love to see Sandra Bullock win. The fact that she did almost all of the acting on her own without many supporting actors is an amazing feat.

She was very good in 'Gravity'. Had she not won undeservedly for 'The blind side', I would have been OK with her win for Gravity. I just don't want a mediocre actress like her to become a 2-Oscars actress.

Best Picture: I hope 12 years a slave wins, but with so many nominees, i have flashbacks to ordinal flipping.
Best Actor: I think Matthew McConaughey will win. I like every performance in this category except that I wish Bale had been nominated for Out of the Furnace which is so much better than AH, imo
Best Actress: it seems like Cate Blanchett will win, she has a bit of the wuzrobbed about her. but my personal favorite was judy dench.
Supporting Actor: it really has to be Leto with everyone else playing for silver
Supporting Actress: i think and hope lupita nyongo will win. the only other one i cared for in this category was june squibb, and what an awesome name she has too
I feel like I'm in a dream. But it can't be a dream because there are no boy dancers!

Matthew will win for actor, but it would be so amazing if Leo pulls the upset. Leo is turning into Kate Winslet with all his nominations without winning. I haven't seen any of the movies, but I've read some things about how while Matthew was good, Leo was better, and Matthew's physical transformation is really what is getting him all the wins. I'd be happy for him anyway, though. It's nice to see his career turn-around.

The only way Cate won't win is because of any possible Woody Allen backlash, in which case, it seems Amy Adams is the next favourite by predictions.

I thought Chiwitel Ejioforwas superb in 12 years but he is not getting much love at awards. Matthew was very good in DBC, but IMO what's getting him the awards is the weight loss. I thought Leo was excellent in TWOWS although I hated the movie. Any three of these should win the Oscar. Christian Bale won recently, so I don't see him winning.

Downloaded Dallas Buyers Club and Nebraska yesterday and today. Matthew should win. Was Nebraska really Oscar material?

I thought Shaving Ryan's Privates was about five hours too long and preferred Shakespeare In Love.

12 Years a Slave should get showered with Oscars. I mean even for AA's abysmal standard, it's the kind of film you just can't walk by.

I thought Lupita gave a better performance than Jennifer, but it wouldn't surprise me if Jennifer won. She is the "it" girl. Plus, I think some people might vote for 12 Years for best picture and then throw American Hustle some love with a vote for Jennifer. I think Matthew M and Jared Leto definitely will win for Dallas Buyers Club. (But I thought Fassbender was great in 12 Years.) I'll be shocked if Blanchett doesn't win. She's won everything. Ditto for Cuaron.

I got only 11 correct out of 24. Some of my predictions were more like 'wish list', e.g. Amy Adams, The wind rises, and Captain Phillips. To me the most shocking award was Gravity for original score. I had expected it to win many technical awards, but not for music. I don't even remember the music in it. Before the last 3 awards announced, Gravity had won 7, and I was sure that it would win the Best Picture at that point. I was happy that in the end 12 years won the B.P. It totally deserved it. Overall though 12 years won just 3 awards (Supporting actress, adapted screenplay and Best Picture). It's quite unusual for a Best Picture to get just 3 awards when another movie won 7.
