Boitano and Orser should announce a comeback as "surprise entries" just to keep everyone on their toes.

Who says Plushenko is out? I don't think Russia has named its team yet has they?

That would depend on which "mens' field" you're talking about...

I bet they name a skater who is skating publicly and not secretly- so kovtun or even voronov or menshov!

    LOL
With Patrick Chan, Yuzuru Hanyu and Daisuke Takahashi, I don't see the need to talk about Lysacek or Plushenko as locks for Gold medal...

I don' t even think most people, outside of delusional fans, even thought Evan was going to actually skate this season, let alone win anything.

Plushy, is well Plushy. I'm sure he believes he can still do so many things, but the rest of us have eyes.

If Kovtun doesnt pull up substantially at Europeans you probably will see Plushenko at the Games. It wont be competing for a gold medal though (well maybe in the Team event).

Kovtun was 4th in the short program today with Voronov 2nd and Verner 3rd to Fernandez. Saturday's lp will be the day of reckoning....
I think even Plushy actually realizes he would not be a threat for gold, and in fact just wants to compete at his 4th Olympics. With an extraordinary amount of luck maybe come in 3rd.

Has the Russian Federation ever articulated where exactly Kovtun need to end up to secure a spot on the Olympic team? 1st place? On the podium? Higher than Voronov? Thanks

No. I don't think the placement matters as much as how he skates. He's not going to face off against Fernandez, Voronov, and Verner in the team event. He would be skating against France, Italy, and Germany, all of whom he has handily beaten here. IMO, the question is more about how well he skates and how that will stack up against the NA and Asian men in the team event, vs what Voronov does in the LP and Plushy's sekret test. I think there would be no shame in placing 3rd with a good skate behind a lights out Fernandez and Verner, better than a silver or gold in a splatfast. But who knows what the Russian fed thinks.

Is there any chance Voronov could be considered for the lone Russian entry if he places top Russian man at Europeans. What an out of nowhere shock that would be, and what irony after he was screwed out of the 2010 team.

How were Lysacek and Plushy more of a factor than Patrick Chan.

There would have to be a faction in the rfsa that doesn't have links to the teams of plushenko and kovtun and some kind of neutral group but I don't think that exists. Kovtun has such strong backing as needs no explanation and a top secret test skate is being discussed for plushenko???

    Or about 5 others.

Yeah and that Voronov who was skating well at the time, was proposterously last moment dropped from the 2010 Olympic team for that nobody shows that the RSF probably hates him to bits anyway. Along with how they handled picking the World team last year.

Would love to see Voronov medal at Euros, just to f*ck with the Russian fed a little more. Of course, that would just mean that Plushenko's "secret test skate" would go remarkably better than anything seen at Euros and he would be sent.

How will Men's event be "at games" as long Candyman is "in"?
