It depends on how she wants to structure her coaching. She may be well aware that she needs a jumping specialist to work with her students. It's also quite possible that she can teach correct technique even though she wasn't able to consistently apply it. Teaching is a lot more than demonstrating and having a student copy.

I am sorry to hear about Ami Parekh retiring. She seems to have really improved this season.

I am hoping Miyahara would gain some major speed and power and lead Japan for the next 4 years, and that Imai would get the harder jumps, or that Hongo would grow out of her Ando-esque presentation.
As much as I love Murakami's spark and attack, all of the above criticisms are on point.

(I also hope the same for Miyahara, Imai and Hongo. Imai's basic skating and fluid movement are really lovely and if she only got the harder jumps sorted, she would have the whole package)

Murakami has been fairly consistent in big competitions but I think the new crop of talent has made her weaknesses more obvious.

It's not clear she knows what good basics are -- not just jump basics -- and I don't think people who don't know what good basics are should be coaching. YMMV.

That is true. Most of the things that we do well day to day might not be correct. When I train a new employee, I teach them the way it's supposed to be done. If they figure out short cuts, congrats!

Maybe the google translation was bad, but it sounded like he said she would continue to look for another partner to represent Ukraine.

Kento Nakamura, one of my favorite of the lesser-known Japanese men, tweeted this 2 days ago - can someone confirm that he is retiring from skating next month (after a show in Osaka?):
    【報告】来月、大阪で開催される大学の定期戦をもちまして16年間のスケート人生を終える決断をしました。 よく考えての決断です。これからは、新しい目標に向かって努力します。お時間ありましたら、是非見に来てく ださい。

    (my rough translation)
"I decided to close my life as a skater of 16 years as of the annual intercollegiate competition held in Osaka next month. I decided my retirement after enough consideration. I'll try my best aiming at a new goal. If you have time, please come and see me. 9:33pm - 2 Apr 14"

The annual intercollageate competition will be held on May the third(17:45-22:45) in Osaka(at Rinkai Sports Center). It's a small competition(only four universities participate). He is supposed to graduate from Rikkyo University this month but I cant confirm it. I heard he wants to be a business man but I can't confirm what he's going to do after his retirement either so far. He'll announce sooner or later.

    Ah, thanks.

This is the translated part that make me think otherwise:

    - What plans are now engaged Siobhan?

    - Siobhan is going to continue training in California. She told me that is not going to throw his Ukrainian passport, after training wants her career has been associated with our country.

    No, that's incorrect.

Siobhan is going to continue her education in California. She said she is not going to give up her Ukranian citizenship and once she graduates she wants her career to be related to our country. Her family had been following the news from Ukraine in the last 3 years, they feel and support the Ukranians

Four-time British champion Matthew Parr, 24, has announced his retirement: http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/spo...fter_Olympics/
“I’ve decided the time is right to retire as I feel that I’ve reached my personal goals in the sport,” said Parr.

“I also have other goals in life that I want I achieve, so I feel that now is the right time to step away from competitive skating and focus on other things for my future.

“My career highlight was undoubtedly competing at the Olympic Games in Sochi – it was an amazing experience and one I’ll never forget.

“Right now, I’m going to enjoy skating professionally for a year and I hope to move back home to Newcastle.

I wish him the best. He seemed so happy just to be on the ice in Sochi.

I imagine that Brubaker accepting that coaching role means he is effectively retired?

I would assume so. It was kind of looking that way considering how far off the podium Davis & Brubaker finished this year.

Was hoping to see Rockne at the international level again, but it makes sense he would want to transition into another career at this stage.
