    Does anybody here watch HGTV?

My confession begins I was stuck in a hotel room in Albany, NY, and with nothing else to do, I turned on the TV, channel flipping, until, by accident, I landed on House Hunters.

Next thing I knew I was addicted to the entire network.

I think what has startled me most about this obsession is that a number of my friends, all professional educated women with actual lives, watch HGTV also. Our eyes get all glinty and alive as we analyze the differences between Love It Or List It and Love It Or List It Two, and whether the Flip Or Flop people have any idea what they're doing, the entertainment value of Flip It To Win It vs. the educational value of House Hunters International (I may never get over the house hunting on Easter Island episode). And I'll leave it to your imagination how excited one of my friends got when she cried, "I love the Property Brothers!" right in front of her husband.

I take great comfort in the fact Hillary Clinton favors Love It Or List It, but I figure that's mostly because it features a strong willed woman named Hillary who deals with demanding fools and ridiculously low budgets, and almost invariably triumphs in the end.

But maybe she just likes the decorating. Maybe she's big on open floor plans and stainless steel appliances and soaking tubs. Maybe if she gets elected, she can get Bill to work with the Fixer Upper couple to turn the White House into a real charmer.

I know if they turn that into an HGTV series, I'll watch every episode!

I love HGTV! HGTV taught me to be ashamed of my popcorn ceilings.

I frequently go to the home and design expos in my city, and there is always a Canadian HGTV host. The most recent were the two hosts from Love It or List It--Vancouver Edition.

I don't watch too many of the design/renovation shows. I like people looking at homes. I love House Hunters. I used to love Property Virgins until they replaced hosts.

Me too! HGTV is my go to channel when none of my regular shows are on. Love House Hunters, and ssssoooooo wish I had been watching it back when I was house hunting; you can actually learn things from watching that show that I wish I knew at that time.

I really like House Hunters International because you can see what typical housing looks like in countries I will never see. And it always makes me wonder "where the hell do they keep their stuff" when you see those houses with no closets. I never saw that Easter Island episode though. Now I'm interested based on your comment.

Love Property Brothers and Income Property. Wish they would come and find me a fixer house and ... fix it for me. But I can't watch Love It or List it anymore. Hillary and David are just wwwwaaaayyyyyy too bitchy for me. I don't mind the other two hosts, but I can't take David and Hillary anymore.

I loved the Mike Holmes shows! If I ever win the lottery I want to hire him and his crew to come and build a house for me.

    I watch.
There is plenty to learn about what to do -- or not to do -- about choosing or renovating a home on any of their shows.

I love HGTV, especially the shows about renovations - what NOT to do! We're in the process of renovating a house we want to sell, and shows like Holmes Inspection or Leave it to Bryan are helpful in giving us ideas about what to watch for. I enjoy House Hunters International just to see what you can get in different areas of the world.

I'm totally addicted to HGTV. Fortunately my bf is too. I really like watching House Hunters and House Hunters International to see what houses and prices are like in other places. I also really enjoy the Mike Holmes shows and find them very informative and interesting. My bf and I are just starting the house buying process and it's actually been kind of enlightening watching some of the shows together

As with others here, I enjoy seeing the options buyers have; and choices made, in other countries.

I love this show. My sisters are renovating an old house as a rental property. I've given them many suggestions but they aren't interested since the house is going to be a rental property, not a home for either of them. It was built in 1910 and has a scary, unfinished basement and an attic space that was used for storage. I would gut the entire kitchen and replace everything in it. I would remove the dropped ceilings that somebody installed, remove the carpets, and restore the original hardwood floors and woodwork. I'd convert the attic space to a master suite. I don't know what I'd do with the basement. It looks like something a serial killer would keep his victims locked up in before killing them.

The front porch was unsafe so they had that rebuilt. There is an Amish community 30 minutes away and they do construction and other home repairs. My sisters picked them up and took them home each day and provided power tools for them to use. My sisters got quotes from several local contractors, but the Amish did the work for about half the cost.

They bought the house for $21,000 and have done about $2,500 in repairs so far. For the price they paid, they could afford to put in more money and make it a really nice house but they don't want to do that.

When I'm old, I don't want them to say of me, "She's so charming." I want them to say, "Be careful, I think she's armed."

I've been an HGTV junkie for years. Back before flipping houses was all the rage. I've entered every one of those damn dream home contests.

They may regret that, Moto Guzzi.
People pay surprisingly good money for HQ rentals in any area.

Many simply choose not to own homes.

I don't have time to watch as much as I used to, but I'm well acquainted with the addictive properties of the House Hunters franchise. Some of my other favorites were Divine Design, Mission: Organization, and Curb Appeal. Oh, and Design on a Dime and Designers Challenge. Besides HH, I'm not even sure if any of those are still on the air, but they used to consume hours of my life.

I'm hooked on "Property Brothers." I recently started watching "Fixer Upper." I also watch "Flip or Flop" and I watch the Home Hunters shows if I find the location interesting. And I don't even own a home.

House Hunters and the original Love it or List it. Confession, I yell at the tv and tell people which house to buy and whether or not they should love it or list it.

I'm an HGTV addict. Happened 3 years ago when I had an unexpected hospitalization for 4 days. Flipping through the channels, I happened on HGTV and was hooked! It's literally my go-to station when I'm not particularly interested in anything else on TV.

My favorites are House Hunters, HH International, Property Brothers, Income Property (I need me some Scott McGillivray in my life!). I have a special fondness for Rehab Addict. What Nicole Curtis does with old condemned homes is inspiring to me. I've recently gotten into Hawaii Life and Alaska Life.

I have to admit, Love It or List It is irritating to me because of David and Hillary's snarking, which I find unnecessary.

I love HGTV too. I record Income Property (my fav), Property Brothers, & House Hunters International - I love to learn a little about other countries. Lately there's a new series called Fixer Uppers which is filmed in Waco. I can't believe the house prices in Waco. They are able to buy most of them for under $100k. 2nd fav is Rehab Addict - I love what she does to old houses.

The Property Brothers have gotten so silly that it's off-putting. I watch the little bit about the couple, FF thru the dream house, watch the 3 choices until they choose, then FF to the finished product.

Income Property is usually the only one that I watch reruns. I love Scott McGilvery.

ETA: Bostonfan, I didn't see your post. We have mostly the same likes.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who yells at the people on House Hunters. Like the bint who said, "this bedroom is too small" and it was bigger than my entire condo. HOW MUCH ROOM DO YOU NEED IN YOUR BEDROOM?

There used to be a show where a designer and architect would totally re-do a crappy house on the computer and then the family would pick one. I wish they had done a show which showed the end result, because I always wondered if they really could do that stuff on the budget proposed.

I like the concept of Rehab Addict, but Nicole does really sloppy work. Really sloppy when she's refinishing anything. I wouldn't buy one of her houses.

I really like the new fixer upper because I think Joanne and Chip are hysterical. Their magnolia homes website has cool stuff even if Jo goes a bit overboard on the rustic look. They are real contractors and not actors like many of the hosts which is why they are so funny.
