Brian Boitano talks neuroscience and skating on Jan 15 in NYC

Part of the annual "Brainwave" series at the Rubin Museum of Art on 17th street bet 6th and 7th Avenues in Manhattan:

"In a conversation with a neuroscientist, three-time Olympic skater Brian Boitano explores the processes of his brain as he addresses the endurance, stamina, and discipline required to stay at the top of his game and overcome injury."

$35. Should be entertaining and informative.

And for anyone who needs more reason to attend, the Rubin is a small but delightful museum.

The title of this thread scared me for a moment - why would Boitano have to talk with/go to a neuroscientist? LOL - thank goodness he is OK!

I have changed the title of the thread -- didn't mean to frighten anyone!

Actually, I can't seem to change the thread title -- just able to fix the title of my initial post. Any admin able to help me? Thank you!

Neuroscientists observe the brain's reactions to stimuli and study things like decision-making. Seeing a neuroscientist doesn't mean you're ill.

Neuro-research methods are still nascent but very promising. If someone could figure out how to hook up athletes to the various monitors while they skate a competitive program, I think we'd uncover very different workings in the brains of skaters like Boitano v. skaters like Czisny.

I really wish I could attend that talk - very interested in both neuroscience and skating!
