Thank you Sylvia, it didn't make sense for it to be in the other thread. Congrats to Tobias & Stagniunas.

The decision marked a turnaround for President Dalia Grybauskaite, who first rejected the citizenship request in January on grounds that Tobias had failed to meet the strict requirements.

But the presidential office said in a statement Monday that Tobias now met the criteria for exceptional merit, after she and skating partner Deividas Stagniunas secured their Olympic berth in March.

She had improved her Lithuanian language skills, the office said, while presidential advisor Indre Pukanasyte told reporters that huge public support in Lithuania had also played a crucial role in the decision.

Another article, titled "Public opinion was crucial in President’s decision to grant Lithuanian citizenship to Tobias": http://www.lithuaniatribune.com/5847...ias-201358474/
    Excerpt:
Artūras Paulauskas, the Labour Party’s candidate for president, says that Grybauskaitė “used the ice dancers for her election campaign” by granting the citizenship to Tobias.

“It is very sad to see how hopes and achievements of young professionals are manipulated for personal gain. I am glad that Tobias was finally granted the Lithuanian citizenship. This could have been done a year ago. The President’s Office is probably interpreting laws differently in the run-up to the elections,” Paulauskas said in a press release on Monday.

Tobias, in her turn pledged to live up to Lithuania’s expectations.

“Thank you, president. I will live up to Lithuania’s hopes. The citizenship has given me and Deividas wings. We will seek the maximum in the Olympics,” Tobias said in a press release.

Wow. Wasn't expecting this positive outcome for Tobias. Glad the uncertainty is finally removed and she and Stagniunas can focus 100% on Europeans and then the Olympics. I have a feeling we'll see some inspired skating from them.
