Skating to Prokofiev's Romeo & Juliet
My most favorite skate to Prokofiev's Romeo & Juliet is by Anissina & Peizerat (1998 FD). No one else comes close to express this music, IMO.
Gregory & Petukhov (2006 Oly)
Tim Goebel's 2003 worlds SP (I love his jumps in this, but not the hunched over posture):
Ashley Wagner - SA 2013 LP (the abandoned program)
Few actually know this, but Ashley Wagner used "March of the Knights" from Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet back in 2006.
2006 US Nationals - Junior
It's possible even she doesn't know.
- Rep Power
I loved Angela Nikodinov's version.
Toller Cranston --" Romeo and Juliet on Ice" - 1982
Volosozhar and Trankov did it in the 2010-2011 season
I think Prokofiev's Death of Juliet (Ashley Wagner's middle section, and the bulk of A&P's FD) is one of the most beautiful compositions and perfect for skating, the rest of Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet I don't care for at all. I don't find it lends itself well to skating.
Anyone else find this too?
a/p's RJ is one of my most fav figureskating programs ever! and because of that, everytime i hear a skater do a RJ program, i would always check whose version they're using (tchaikovsky vs prokofiev) and i usually prefer the latter
Adrian Schultheiss used some selections. 2010-2011.
Sarah Hecken - 2009/10 Short Program (2009 Skate America) - meshed together Prokofiev's version with Rota's and Tchaikovsky's
I remember Angela skating to Prokofiev's Cinderella in 1997, but I don't remember her skating to Romeo & Juliet. Do you remember the year?
Angela Nikodinov's LP from 2004/05 was to Romeo & Juliet, but it was to Tchaikovsky's version, not Prokofiev's. Here it is from the 2004 Marshalls World Cup of Figure Skating (3rd December 2004). It was just a month after the Marshall's event, that Nikodinov and her family were involved in the dreadful car accident that killed her mother on the way to 2005 U.S Nationals. As she retired immediately after the accident, I think this long program must have been her final competitive performance.

EDT... Nevermind. Mito's music was Cinderalla
I believe she skated to Cinderella, but I clicked on the link just to see her magnificent triple axel.

Hecken was not the only one to mix different versions. Jessica Dubé & Bryce Davison did the same with their 2003/04 and 2004/05 free program. They mixed elements of Prokofiev's with Rota's. This is the program from the 2005 Junior World Championships. And here it is from a year earlier from the 2004 Junior World Championships

Anissina & Peizerat is definitely my favorite. What a gorgeous program!
Volosozhar / Trankov - 2011 World Championsips - FS

Hence, the 2011 World Championships was the only major international event at which their Romeo & Juliet program was performed. Outside of Worlds, the only competitions it was performed at were 2011 Nationals and the 2011 Mont Blanc Trophy

:S I'm quite certain the entire piece was only Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet, no part of it seems to be from Prokofiev or Rota's...

Now then - you have reminded me of something I had completely forgotten. When Hecken began the 2009/10 season, her Romeo & Juliet SP was a complete Tchaikovsky version - hence, the performance at Skate America was to that version. It was only later in the season that the Tchaikovsky, Rota, and Prokofiev versions were mixed together. And here that version is from the 2010 World Championships. The Prokofiev element is Dance of the Knights and makes up the first third of the program. The mid section is from Rota, and the final third is Tchaikovsky. Apologies for linking in the Skate America version in error.
