I will be able to go to Skate Canada 2014

(I can see everyone is so excited about SC being in Kelowna that no-one responded to the thread )

ETA I see now the thread is only 2 days old, not months as I thought

I think there was an earlier thread about this. At least, I remember replying, with glee, that I would be there!

Here's a link to the earlier thread: http://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/show...te+canada+2014

Perhaps an Admin could merge the two threads?

At least it's on the west coast. Still, may not be close enough for me to go, but you never know.

Hooray hooray hooray I can go to SC 2014

Carpooling from Van please please please

The two hotels closest to the arena are already fully booked

I just booked a room at Kelowna Inn and Suites, 1.8 km from the arena. The room has 2 queen size beds so if anyone is interested in sharing to save costs PM me. It looks pretty good. I've been to Kelowna many many times, it's a great place. (well maybe not so much at the end of October brrrrr )

Is anyone interested in carpooling from Victoria? I'm happy to drive, but would be more happy to share ferry costs, and have company for the drive.

The way the BC govt has treated amateur sports in the past, that's $100,000 that's probably going to be subtracted from the funding that's usually available to sport clubs and organizations. And I'm sure the fact that Clark is the MLA for Kelowna has nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with this grant

Wow, $185 for the best tickets! With taxes, ticket surcharges, etc. probably over $200. I can't remember Skate Canada in Saint John being that expensive or am I forgetting things? Certainly, it's more expensive than Skate America.

Hmm. Interesting. Well, living in the Vancouver area is much more expensive than living in the Maritimes. Housing is much more expensive on the west coast than out east - my cousin used to live in Vancouver but found it so expensive, just to have an apartment, compared to what it costs in Ontario, Quebec, etc.

Perhaps the higher prices on the west coast carry over to sporting events and a higher cost of living for everything else too?

Kelowna is far enough away from Vancouver that the cost of living in Vancouver is not relevant. The main effect in Kelowna is that the cost of housing there is going up due to increased demand, from people fleeing expensive Vancouver. But you certainly can't blame the cost of Skate Canada in Kelowna on the cost of living in Vancouver.

I would guess that because Kelowna is a secondary destination by air, i.e. not a major center, it's more expense to stage Skate Canada there because of travel costs. It's going to cost more to get officials, skaters, judges, etc., there than it would if it were in, say, Vancouver or Toronto.

Also, keep in mind it's a fairly small rink. The cheap seats really aren't bad at all. You could be in the top row and still be seeing everything easily.

Kelowna is also now the riding of the Premier of British Columbia, Christy Clark.

Mr. Japanfan and I are planning to drive and have room for at least two more people - three could possibly share the back seat.
