Brittany Jones and Joshua Reagan - new pair?

I was browsing various sites for upcoming Canadian sectional competitons and saw that Brittany Jones and Joshua Reagan are registered to compete at Western Ontario sectionals. Did anyone see this coming?

Nice catch. I presume this is the same Joshua Reagan that has had a US partner-du-annee (Cain, Yankowskas, Bereswill) for the three previous years?

Interesting. Why Canada, I wonder? Good luck to them both.

ETA: Nevermind the above comment; I was thinking about Brittany Simpson

This guy is the lindsay davis of pair guys. Somehow (I'll never figure out how) he always ends up with great partners.

I didn't know that Jones and Beharry split. That means Beharry has recently lost two partners, including Katherine Bobak.

Someone posted awhile back that Beharry quit so that's why Jones needed a new partner.

Good luck to her and Josh in their new partnership. Be interesting to see how they look together after just a short period of time together.

They scored 40.88 in the short. Here are the protocols:

That sounds like a rough outing. I wonder what they were skating to.

geoskate has started a handy thread titled "2014 Canadians qualification (Sectionals)" with results links in the Kiss and Cry form.

Not unexpected considering Jones/Reagan probably haven't been training together for very long. ETA that the fall on the throw 3Lo could be a timing issue, for example.

Good point. I wonder how long they have been skating together.

It can't be longer than a couple of months. Reagan skated with Becky Bereswill at the Skate Detroit competiton in late July.

They have only been together for 4 weeks, including the tryout.

I was talking to her family on Friday at the event. The tryout started Sept 3rd and they pretty much decided that day to skate together. So they have been together for 2 months now.

So, they must be assuming they will be given a bye to Challenge and/or Nationals, since they didn't complete their event at Sectionals? Based on what - too few pairs or international assignment? Seems good they chose Canada then - if he has stood by US, they would be done for the season. (less than 4 pairs, but if you choose to skate, you have to skate the event, I think.)

I'm not sure 100%, but I believe that if there are not enough teams to fill the positions, they can take a bye through the level. They have to register and pay their fees, but they don't have to skate. I don't believe there are 12 Senior teams nationally. That means they could bye all the way to Nationals, which gives them a couple of months to pull programs together as a brand new team, although I wouldn't be surprised if they show up at Challenge to get some competitive experience. It's a month away. Or we could have no Senior pairs at Challenge. That wouldn't shock me either, since Regina is difficult and expensive to get to, in a different time zone than every other pairs team except Paige and Rudy, often cold and wintery in early December, and perhaps more teams will think training time at home is time better spent.
