I had read reports that the damage wasn't as bad as expected due to the storm moving quickly, so I was very saddened to see today's fatality reports. Prayers for all the people impacted and the rescuers trying to help people. So tragic.

You're right about slide 15 being incredible. It's a monstrosity. My thoughts and prayers for the people there.

This is horrifying, worse than the 2004/2005 tsunami even. I hope countries send aid quickly.

I'm feeling lucky, my family is a few towns north of Subic Bay and are ok. Best regards to your loved ones, Merrywidow, I hope they are ok too.

It's hard to grasp the level of loss and destruction. Does anyone know a good way to send a donation? Any local agencies providing relief on location ?

Last report that I saw said over 10,000 dead. My heart goes out to the people of the Phillipines in the face of this devastating storm.

Red Cross is there, and I think they are reliable.

Indian ocean Tsunami killed nearly a quarter of a million people, the intensity of that was (as thing stand now) more deadlier than Typhoon. I am hoping help reaches soon to people who urgently need them.

What a tragedy, the loss of at least 10,000 people all with family or friends to grieve over the disaster. I hope people will donate to help those who have survived rebuild their lives, but I think most help should come from governments around the world.

My daughter in law is still unable to receive word about her mother, sisters, brother & his family in Tacloban. She has been in touch with a sister in Manila & another brother who is on another island. So far, they haven't been able to reach the family in Tacloban either. We are very concerned.

You have every right to be very concerned but also realize that the typhoon completely totaled the infrastructure which means there is no communications. No word may be because no word can get out.

Thinking good thoughts and keeping my fingers crossed.

Merrywidow, I hope your daughter-in-law gets word in the next few days; I know it is so hard when you're waiting and wondering.

I hope they're able to start getting water and food in quickly.

The pictures of the devastation are so terrible. Many have promised aid but it could be a few more days before more help arrives.
