I'm glad that figure skating has one brave soul willing to speak out (as much as an athlete who wants a berth on the Olympic team can speak out). It shows how brave she really is, and is consistent with her fighter attitude. This is what a true sporting hero and role model looks like.

    Bravo, Ashley!

    Per Phil Hersh on twitter:

@AshWagner2010 and Jeremy Abbott only ones of 6 top US skaters to say they don't support anti-gay law.

@EvanLysacek, @GraceEGold, Max Aaron and Agnes Zawadzki basically say they will follow USOC lead on issue

    I agree.

When is the next vote on the Gay Icon?

Love her for speaking up, and I love the way she spoke up. Very honest and straightforward, no false piety, and with minimal political grandstanding. None, really, considering she was expressing her opinion on such a contentious issue. Rock on, and get that damn 3-3, girl!

Fantastic! I hope there won't be any backlash for her. She expressed herself very well, clear message, nothing antagonistic, well done Ashley!

It doesn't even need to happen. I think we've found our winner!

I bet Morry hates her now.
I guess the hard thing for a lot of people to accept is why God would allow me to go running through their yards, yelling and spinning around.

The other skaters might give this some thought.

    Good, brave, principled girl.

@EvanLysacek, @GraceEGold, Max Aaron and Agnes Zawadzki basically say they will follow USOC lead on issue
The way I read it Evan, Gracie, and Max did the equivalent of "no comment", Agnes said the equivalent of 'I can't be bothered to care one way or the other, the issue doesn't concern me'.

Now that Ashley has eloquently said something, and Jeremy not so eloquently- I wonder if more skaters will feel comfortable saying something? I honestly think many of them are scared to take a stand.
