One question that always comes to my mind is - why did Todd not start working on the quad early in his career, when Elvis started landing it? Todd had the most difficult 3A-3t combination - at that time- as early as 1990. Only Petrenko was able to do it back then. At least after 1992 or 93 he should have started working on it. I don't know if he had an injury issue.
He waited till the 2001-2002 Olympic season to put the quad in his program and it was already too late. Based on how the 6.0 system worked, his losses were understandable. Some of them were close, but only one where one could say he was robbed (or nearly robbed in my eyes) was the 2001 worlds. Although Yagudin had a quad combination, he had multiple errors in that LP, and Todd skated very well.
