Now Mao is on instagram( her posts are not open to public, though). She got her account during her stay in Kazakhstan. Can you see her account on Balde's instagram? Happy to see all the guys enjoying themselves in this photo. http://instagram.com/p/ovQVSfJckr/ I guess Nathalie lectured Mao and Daisuke how to post on instagram, and both of them got their account. Here's Daisuke's first post on instagram. http://i.instagram.com/p/otbBHZLJ3X/ Today Daisuke skated in rehearsal for Fantasy on Ice which is held this weekend. Seems he enjoyed the rehearsal with other team Japan skaters such as Nobu, Takahiko, Tatsuki, Akiko, Kanako etc (see his photos posted today). I guess Mao is taking a rest now or in Canada for choreography with Lori for her show 'The Ice'.

My favorite photos from Denis's show. She skated 'Ballade No.1' again after a few years. I love her beauty in this program so much.

Shame I haven't found any good quality video of this program which I love. This video is recorded on the first day of the tour and the pianist played a bit too fast so it seems she had difficulty to adjust to it. She skated pretty well from the second day. Wish we'll see a good video later.

I FINALLY found a better video of Chopin's Ballade No.1 skated in Kazakhstan show(June the 1st) on youtube!
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzz7HRKDUeU

After seeing BBC's documentary named "Chopin saved my life" http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XNjA3NzY1MTIw.html, this number always reminds me of Momoka, 'a 15-year-old pianist from Sendai, Japan, whose community was decimated by the 2011 tsunami and earthquakes. For Momoka, the Ballade embodies the anguish and rebellion she feels but doesn’t allow to surface'(quoted from BBC's site).

Analysis of Chopin's Ballade No1 by the four musicians who appeared at this documentary:

In the coda distinct characters collide to each other and it goes back to the darkness again, with fury and despair. The story is left to the audience without any conclusion.
    ETA:
One more video of Ballade No1 in Kazakhstan. This one is from the show on May 29th.

It seems Mao's stayed in Toronto after Denis's show in Kazakh. She worked on her ex program with Lori and then participated in a summer camp there together with Team China, Fumie and Canadian skaters(and skaters training in Canada) including Daleman. In the photos below I assume they worked on mime and facial expressions, maybe? Happy to see her very relaxed in the camp.

Some lovely photos from Han Yan's instagram.

I found several other skaters(mostly juniors training there) posted photos with Mao but it would be better not to post the links here. They posted comments such as "it was amazing to see Mao" "#inspiration" etc. BTW I think the experience in this camp will be helpful for her if she retires and starts training as a coach in the near future.

I don't know why but Mao is in Vienna now. For filming or something? She's still very busy.

Supposedly a mom of a skater posted a clip of Mao's light training on compulsory.

^ I am very puzzled, I just can't figure out what Mao was doing in Austria. Are there any important figure skating individuals there? I lke that she is staying soo close to figure skating related things during her break, making it easy to know what she is doing from time to time.

^I don't have any clear information but someone tweeted that she was with camera crew in Vienna. She might have visited there for filming TV commercial or TV show. OR, she might have visited there for reference related to new ex program and the TV crew accompanied her for a documentary. It will be revealed sooner or later.

It's good to see her traveling around the world during her break. When her mother was sick, she couldn't leave Japan. It's sad her mom passed away but at the same time it's true that she can travel around freely now with her mom inside of her heart. Hope she enjoys whatever she's wanted to do.

It was revealed that they were shooting a Japanese quiz show "Fushigi Hakken"(=Discover Mysteries) which is a popular long-runner. A reporter called "mystery hunter" travels around the world to give a quiz related to a certain theme. Mao worked as the mystery hunter. See the PR video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdn4-bo9RBk It will be aired on July 5th in Japan. If I find videos on youtube, I'll post on this thread.

This article says that Mao has been a big fan of this quiz show and she asked directly if it's possible for her to work as the mystery hunter, and the TV station was very much willing to work with her. You know she is one of the killer contents in Japan. She rarely appears on TV entertainment shows, maybe once a year or so. She visited Austria, Slovakia, and Hungary along Danube during June 12-19th. Her theme was the harmony of classical music, ballet and figure skating combined. She visited such as Franz Liszt Museum. She skated to Liszt's Liebesträume in the year when her mom passed away and she was in the process of reworking on her basic skills. So it's one of the most memorable numbers for her.

    リストの肖像画を見つめながら「こんなにカッコいいんだ~」とユーモアを交えながら「歴史を知っていたら、 私の滑りも変わったかも」と振り返った。
    (my rough translation)
"What a good looking guy!" she looked back(her career) watching a portrait of List. "If I knew the history more, I might have skated differently" she made a joke.

^Glad you enjoyed my posts, sapphiresky.

Another preview video of the quiz show. Seems she enjoyed the travel. I'm curious about the reason why she dropped tears in the end of this video. She says "Art is great." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DM6sTv4Bf1o

This is another video which I love. This is the last showing of "Smile/What a wonderful world" in Japan(She skated it in Kazakhstan show after this skating in Prince Ice World 2014, though.) In the beginning of the video she is interviewed. She says she wants to enjoy her campus life, especially she wants to enjoy various things which she hasn't experienced. Nice to see her smiling relaxed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDpNFkpzSNE

Some lovely photos are on the official site of the quiz show.

I think that Mao is another skater who does not need an Olympic Gold medal to be regarded as successful. Regardless of if she chooses to return to skating or if she decides to get married and began a family, she is just a legend. That is whether you prefer Asada or Kim and all that silly banter. Mao Asada has turned herself into a true ice master and she personifies dedication, courage and grace. WE have seen her handle some situations that would have ruined others. Not Mao. I love her

It really is masterful. I am always impressed by how much Japanese skaters do in exhibitions. It is remarkable how much Mao can communicate from so far away. She is perfection - there is an angelic lightness and grace about her skating. And it is clear that the audience knew it.

The Prima ballerina stretches her wings high into the sky
in agile arabesques, lithe leg extensions, fan and Y spirals
that carve wide open arcs spanning the ice
like the arched necks of two swans
    caressing each others beaks
to form a warm and loving valentine,
thawing the frozen pond on which she glides
in the gentle wake of Springtime.

She cradles her lovely limb lifted
    perpendicular behind her back,
as she extends her chest sideways.
Her hand, head and arms open wide
in a warm and welcoming gesture
that embraces her audience with a tender smile.

Some birds of prey may dart higher
and dive faster to capture their kill
since Speedy demons set up a system
to clip the wings of the graceful, agile angel.

But, the soaring swan in her pure white feather dress
remains unruffled, sweeping us away to a beautiful oasis,
where the pure and powerful flow of her expressive soul
quenches our thirst like the surge of sweet spring water
from deep beneath the earth's surface.

But, now that she has enriched our spirits,
I hope she fulfills her dream of lighting for a while
on a tropical island and reclining
    beneath a coconut grove.

We will look for her to leave her perch of learning at university next season.
But, if she has grown weary of Speedy’s futile chase to erase her greatness,
we will always adore her for being the Consummate Spiritual Warrior
that brought heart, purity, fight and light exquisite positions and lines
to a sport where it is rapidly vanishing.

And in her absence the triple axel, stunning step sequences
and that wonderful wave-like flow in every motion
that moves the emotions like the moon does the ocean
are an ebb tide receding towards extinction.
Flying away from this earthly place like the whooping crane
    exclusively seen in her exhibitions.
