That was amazing. It is great to see Miki de-Morozoved. I only worry that the pressure on her will quadrupled now that she looks like a contender. Her story is just too amazing for the Japanese media to pass up.

TANbKA reported that fans threw sunflowers on the ice.

    ^ I can't open those pix.

Scroll down for great pic of Miki's closing haircutter. BTW, I am assuming she got a music deduction so she's "really" (not really) only 4 pts behind Radionova.

I thought Miki looked fantastic in her SP for both this stage of the season and considering that she's coming back after a long absence. Her lutz was huge, her steps looked good and I thought she looked very calm on the ice. The spins were a bit slow but she can improve on those as the season progresses. She also looks stunning, and her SP dress is gorgeous.

I've always held a soft spot for Miki since I first saw her skate during an exhibition at NHK (where she landed a 4S and 3Lz+3Lo).

Nearly a decade later, she's proven to be a great competitor.

Miki *is* able to hit some lovely positions, it's just years of sloppy choreography from Morozov that she needs to get rid of (and that ugly sit spin position).

I actually think her posture was quite decent here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QnfPlHXdqo

Anyway, she looks great and best of luck to her.

Also, do my eyes deceive me but a Brazilian skater landed a 3Lz combination and Fleur Maxwell went for a 3F?!

Miki Ando won the second place, saying " I am ashamed of many mistakes in FS". She could get the minimum technical score.
    September 28th, 2013

    Miki Ando said:
I feel that I was able to have a jump recover until this level well.
I have understood that my physical strength isn't sufficient still.
Because there was many mistakes in the free skating, I am ashamed of my performance.
I understand that it was the score which the judges encouraged me. I could find out a lot of problems, too.

She's gonna need to find about 30 more points between her 2 skates until Olympics,
If she wants to be competitive for a medal

I think Nebelhorn was a success for Miki. Miki performed well and got a good result. I also think it was good for Miki to skate against a well performing Elena Radionova because it will keep Miki mindful of the type of skaters that will be at Japanese Nationals and the Olympics.

Ando should be proud of herself.
    Wow, a very talented lady.
After 5 months from a childbirth, landing 6 triples(SP+LP) and getting total 162 points are never humble results.

I thought Miki did really well. Now she has a few months to work on her spins and refining her jumps.

Varter Rizzo was fixed as the new coach of Ando in this season.

This is an article in "Yomiuri Shimbun" in Japan.
    Translating to English from Japanese.

Valter Rizzo was fixed as the new coach of Ando in this season.
    September 28th. 2013

The coach in this season of Miki Ando who returned to the competition aiming at the participation to Sochi Olympics was decided to Italian Valter Rizzo.

Rizzo who was decided to the coach had served as the assistant formerly under Nikolai Morozov who had coached Ando.
In this International Event of her return match which Ando won the second place, too, Rizzo supported Ando as the special coach.
After giving birth of a girl in April this year, Ando resumed the practice, aiming at the Sochi Olympics, and returned to the competition after interval of 3 seasons, in this International Event.
However, because her coach was absence as she had canceled the teacher-pupils relationship with Morozov after the 2011 Worlds which she won her second championship, it has become the big pending problem to aiming at her participation to Sochi Olympics.
As for Rizzo, Ando is talking about the impression, saying "He makes me aim at the competition, relaxing".

    The article:
Valter Rizzo was fixed as the new coach of Ando in this season.

Translator's note: I mistook the spell of Valter Rizzo in the title. I'm sorry.

Her freeskate from Nebelhorn looked like it was a really watered down program (both difficulty and choreography - even for her) aimed at getting the min. technical score. Let's hope this is the case, because she will definitely need to put in a second triple lutz instead of the double axel, and up all the levels of her spins and skate with much more fire if hoping to get to Sochi, but I think she knows this as well!

^Yes, she seemed very tired. And like the British Eurosport commentators said, she was definitely careful and the skating was controlled. Probably on purpose though. She's definitely not at 100% yet, but she is in great shape for this moment in the season.

She made it through the short and the long with no falls, no deductions, about 6 pts GOE, and a silver medal. Under the circumstances--years away from competition, a new baby, no support from her fed, and a barely congealed (if it is congealed) coaching situation--I'd call it an amazing comeback. It certainly gives her confidence for nats or whatever comes next. hopefully coming in second may ease the pressure on her just a tad. Miki seems to like being an underdog.

She seems very clear about what she needs to improve. I would be thrilled if she could bring some of the emotion she has showed in her show numbers to her competition programs.
