Interesting - usually the pairs competition is first. This year it is last.

Probably because it will be Europe's best chance for a gold medal in Sochi. "Four Continents" men, ladies and dancers have the edge in the other three disciplines.

I am loving Julia Lipnitskaia's draw for the SP - skates last. I think that she will be able to handle it.

If Julia skates clean, she has a decent chance of placing 1st or 2nd in the SP. If Carolina skates well earlier, she could be uncatchable though. I have read raves about her Ave Maria SP.

I am so out of touch with skating stuff at the moment I hadn't even realised this was on this week.

So which skaters are CZE and SVK sending to the Olympics? Last time I checked it was Ukolova and Simancikova but neither are here.

I do know Simancikova has been skating poorly this season, so....?

I was hoping for S/Z to do well here, but their starting order doesnt bode well.

I have a strong hunch that either Julia and/or Adelina will place above Caro. Looking forward to the event tonight!

For CZE it´s definitely Ukolova. Brezinova will be going to Worlds.

Great draw for Kovtun. Joubert, Amodio, Brezina are all skating earlier. Only Fernandez to challenge him in the last group. Of course it's just the SP, but he could actually medal here, with no Canadian or Japanese skaters around.

I noticed that the ice dancers don't get a day off between their short & long programs. All other disciplines do. I wonder why? Just a scheduling issue?

They compete at 4CCs, being from Asia, not Europe.

All three Russian pairs in the final group! Why are S&S skating so early (penultimate group)? I thought this was a random draw but may be random only within the last two groups?

I wish the whole thing was a random draw, then after the sp they can perform in order of finish.
