Thank you so very much for the info and all the links, Vivika (and thank you, too, DaiKozOda). I was wondering whether there would be another season of Ice Age. It's sooo good to see that Denkove/Staviski and Drobiazko/Vanagas are again taking part! I love to see them skate, and they have always succeeded in teaching their celebrity partners how to skate!
It's all skating this season, isn't it? (I'm asking because two years ago, they gave it a try with Modern Dance/Ballet on the floor, too, alternating skating and dancing every other week. I thought that was very interesting to watch).

Yes. The show will follow the usual routine : all pairs skating/competing, then after few episodes the pair with lowest scores will be eliminated and etc. etc....
I tried to translate the part were Averbukh talks about the format of he show

    http://www.kp.ru/daily/26125.2/3017534/

Ilya Averbukh : " The format of the new " Ice Age " was defined by the Olympics in Sochi"

    - "Ice Age " is back on the air after a two-year pause . We have long thought, what format should we have for the new season. Last time viewers saw the “Cup of professionals," where skaters were outstanding. We were very curious whether the project could exist without stars? Will we be able to interest the audience only with the skill of the athletes? Ratings showed that it was the right move. But now the situation is different. Six months from now, our country for the first time in its history, will host the Winter Olympics. And before the start of the Olympic Games in Sochi, we would like to draw the attention to the people who can learn this wonderful sport from the ground zero. We would like to prove that skating can be practiced at any age and at any level of training. So we decided to go back to the classic format: when a newbie-star skates with a famous athlete. We have calculated that during the project, we have put on skates about 80 show business, movie and theater’s stars. It is of great importance for the promotion of figure skating. Because five years from now in the sport will catch up the children whose parents brought them in the sport schools because of the boom of "Ice Age". And then the big victories will come. I believe in it, because for us figure skating is like the soccer for the Brazilians. It is a national sport.

I wonder how Zhulin will balance this project with coaching. This is his time to prove that it will not interfere.

Lets wait and see but I wonder what B/S will do or won't.As for Zhulin he'll be involved with the project until New Year I guess and he'll handle his coaching the same way he did before :in tandem with Volkov, with the help of Staviski and other skater. He doesn't have to be with his competing teams all the time .

Shabalin is still skating on those knees? I guess professional skating such as this won't put too much wear and tear on the knees.

Yes thanks for this! Have not seen the whole program yet but at first, I hardly recognized Peter T. Seeing Jana made me think of how much time has passed by as it seemed not that long ago when she was trying to skate with Fedor. Did he ever recover from his injuries? Seems he only coaches now. Shabalin looks like he may have a small brace or something like that on one or both knees and I noticed at least twice he seemed to have a little trouble moving the knee (or the leg?) to get up from a kneeling position. Perhaps, like it has been mentioned, this kind of skating and the pace are tolerable for him with some sort of new brace or whatnot on his knees. It would be interesting to know what he is using that is working for him.
I just hope that he isn't making things more painful in the long-run or ending up with even more surgery.

Like the Episode but to be honest after "Cup of the Professionals" i am not so trilled .I mean i'll watch it because of the skaters ,but on a silly note, i wish Averbukh and company could create something like annual professional competition besides "Ice Age". I understand the goal is to revive the popularity of figure skating but is sad to think that celebrities(not the champions) are being used to do that JMHO.

Yes, I agree. Cup of the Professionals was so much better. I'm not very happy to have to watch celebrities who cannot skate, when in Russia they have "celebrities" who are figure skating champions. How does that promote the sport?

It doesn't but promotes the ratings of Russian Chanel 1.ITA that after so many Ice Age shows the skaters are even more recognizable and famous now but maybe is not enough and celebs/artists/showmen still attract more audience. Anyway since the good skating is not so appreciated, the show in this format gives cakes to the crowd and bread to the skaters. Just my humble figure skating fan opinion
Back to the topic and the show : so far not so many dangerous hops, lifts and drops and Anita Tsoy was the only watchable non-profi skater .

I liked Tsoy very much and I find it surprising that she isn't leading straight away. But since I've watched the other seasons of the show, I've learned that it is better not to pay attention to the scores because it is not a real competition anyway...
Gryu & Marinin and Medvedeva & Vanagas were very nice as well.
Just wonder how many of these programs will inspire Zhulin for competition. Afterall he transformed some ideas from Ice Age into real programs. I remember he choreographed Kazanova & Kostomarov and then picked the exact same music to Bobrova & Soloviev (2012/2013 FD). He also included some Arntgolts & Staviski moves in "Requiem for a dream" choreo in Bobrova & Soloviev's FD.
I don't know how much this kind of shows may help figure skating but you wouldn't believe how many people i know, who didn't pay attention to it at all, started to wonder about the sport after having watched Ice Age. To me the main appeal is to be able to keep watching skaters like Tikhonov, Tchernyshev and Vanagas whom I love.

This 'Skating with Celebrities' format must have been quite a success among the Russian TV viewers since Averbukh could find sponsors for a new similar project. It's really great that Averbukh can give jobs to the skaters every or nearly every season.

I'd give a couple of extra points to Khokhlova/Khrustalyov in this competition because Jana's partner seems to be able to do some skating on his own and looks much less scared to be on the ice than most of the other non-skaters. lol

I'm amused to see that Zhulin is involved in a new Ice Age because I clearly remember Piseev a couple of years ago wanted Zhulin to choose between coaching/choreographing for money and working for the glory of the country. lol
