Now that his career is likely over where does Patrick Chan rank among other Canadian greats. For me Browning is still clearly #1 even without an Olympic medal. I would put Cranston at #2. He may not have the medals but he is the most influential Canadian skater ever, including Kurt. #3 would be Orser for me. He may have alot of runner ups but he was the best free skater of his era and his 2 Olympic silvers were both mighty impressive and could easily have been gold.
So #4 for me would be between Chan, Buttle, and Stojko. Buttle is the most artistic but doesnt have the athleticsm or medals of the other two. Chan and Stojko have similar medal hauls. However most people will say Chan has only 1 real world title as 2 of them were so controversial and seen to be undeserved. However I think you could say the same about Elvis. I dont think Elvis deserved either his 95 and 97 world titles, both which should have gone to Todd. Todd also should have beaten him at the 96 and 97 grand prix final so he should have only a silver and two bronzes from that event while Chan won 2 very well deserved grand prix final titles and a silver. Candelero also should have won silver at the 98 Games over Elvis. So if we take away the questionable medals of both I think Chan comes out even more favorably with Elvis than as they are. Plus he is just a better overall skater, regardless of medals, Stojko was a great competitor.
So I would rank Chan 4th, Buttle 5th, Stojko 6th.
