I believe Anton was her next partner and he stuck by her when it wasn't at all clear that she could regain her competitive form. Amazingly she went on to win the Olympics.
That's not how it happened. After her accident Elena never skated with Oleg Shliakov. She said at that point (from a fluff piece during the 1998 Oly) that her partnership with Oleg was over at that point. She would rather not skate at all, than skate with him. The incident you mention about Oleg stomping out of the K&C happened before the accident. After Elena recovered somewhat (enough to travel) Anton brought her back to Russia (from Riga, Latvia where the skate blade accident happened). Initially they started skating as therapy for Elena. They didn't know (Anton and Tamara) what she would be capable of. However, she recovered enough to start skating pairs with Anton. She really wanted to skate with Anton, based on her interview in a fluff piece during the 1998 Olympics. You are right that Elena was very lucky to have Anton in her life at that point. Without him, I am not sure that she would have progressed as much as she did, physically and mentally.

I remember the incident in the K&C, and I remember the fluff piece you are talking about but I don't remember the sequence. I do remember some fluff piece where after Oleg's accident with Elena he felt he was the injured party. I guess that's why I thought the K&C incident came after the accident. In any event Oleg was a scary guy. I hope he never got married or skated with another partner!

Interestingly enough Anton bailed on the kiss and cry at their first Worlds together.
They were 2nd or 3rd after the SP and had a catastrophic FP and fell to 9th in the standings.
Here Elena is alone in the kiss'n'cry

I remember that one. I still have the tape. They were 3rd in the SP. Elena looked incredibly happy in that program. I have never seen her that happy at any other time. In the LP they had a total meltdown. He fell on both sbs jumps. She fell on both throws. Anton didn't wait in the K&C to watch the scores. Elena bravely sat there to face it. However, there is a big difference between Anton walking out of the K&C and Oleg not even accompanying Elena to the medal podium at one time; Elena had to be escorted by another skater (I forget who). Anton was just upset in general, but Oleg took out his anger and frustrations on Elena. He used to even hit her. Anton treated her like a "crystal vase" (Tamara's words)

It was Kris Wirtz at Skate Canada in Red Deer in 1995.

There was a big difference between the 2 occasions..I would say Anton's was shock and disappointment ..while Oleg's was blame and anger.

It was in the same fluff piece. Yes, Oleg talked as if he was the injured guy. He was in Chicago at that time (I am guessing close to the 1998 Olympics, since the fluff aired during the 98 Olys), looking for his 9th pairs partner. I don't know if he ever found her and/or if he ever skated pairs after that.

So based on your comments I thought I'd google him. In 5 minutes of searching I still see what an ass he is. He did skate with another partener according to wikipedia Elena Sirokhvatova and placed 20th at the 97 Worlds. Also an interview/video posted in 2009. He's put on weight and I hardly recognize him. It's translated and he basically rambles on about Anton trying to steal Elena, Elena being in love with Anton, not focusing on him or caring about their partenership(gee I wonder why) etc. Then he really lost me when it mentions the day he put his skate blade in her head and he says something to the tune of maybe we both weren't concentrating and Elena maybe was thinking about seeing her lover in 6 days(WTF!) and I was wondering if I'd make it to Worlds. Again what a complete ass. Here's the link if anyone is interested http://ptichkafs.livejournal.com/44587.html

Vasiliev talks about the Latvian federation and a season coaching Shilakov in a couple of his recent interviews.

It looks like Anton is having a difficult time politically and his divorce does not help matters.

My favorite pair ever. I'm unabashedly romantic. I'm putting it out into the universe, hope they get another chance together.

Also referencing another thread, in her recent interview Moskvina mentions Elena's students so clearly she is doing some teaching which is great - she has so much beautiful technique to pass on to her students.

When they were skating together as pros, I was thinking that Anton would make a good coach. I had not thought of Elena as a coach, but apparently she is doing well with it. I hope Anton has success in whatever he decides to do.

He was married to Kristina Lenko for about three years. They separated in 2006. Elene's first child was born in 2007.

He was a pretty great skater and performer, but he hasn't the temperament to be a coach. It would be a disaster.

Steven Cousins does a fair amount of work choreographing for shows. He is listed quite frequently with Disson productions, which is at least a still-reliable producer of shows in the US involving skating and cross-over entertainment (teen bands, gymnasts, etc).
