Only if everyone was in a self-driving car.

    Tennis attire:

    All-white Wimbledon look,
    or
    anything-goes US Open look?

Just by looking at the listed names, I knew almost all of them were going to be Japanese or Asian.

Probably not the onion or the garlic. (A nice cold Coke Zero is usually my *antidote* to having had too much oniony/garlicky food, so I wouldn't want to double down.)

I've had the "grass jelly," it's commonly available in Chinese supermarkets here (not really a soda, more a drink with jelly cubes in it), and I'm pretty sure the black currant, or some variation thereof, was a Jones Soda or some other indie-brand flavor once.

Semi-touristy things I should do in NYC this weekend besides the US Open? (as someone who used to live there and be intimately familiar with it, but has kind of lost touch with things over the years)

    Cloisters
    High Line Park
Brooklyn neighborhood exploration - Park Slope, Williamsburg, etc.
The new(er) Rockefeller Center observation deck
Check out all the new stuff in the neighborhood where I used to work
    Eat eat eat
    Drink drink drink
    Other - suggest

I'm sticking to Black Currant LOL

I've never been to NYC but definitely

    drink, drink, drink
    eat, eat, eat
The new (er) Rockefeller Center observation deck sounds interesting
I'm sure you've done the other main attractions like the S of L etc.

If I was to visit one city would you recommend

    New York
    Boston
    Chicago

(oops sorry Buzz, you slipped in just ahead of me)

#308: both sushi and dim sum.

#309: New York; Boston can also be doable in the same trip via bus or train.

    Favorite NYC subway ads:

    Poetry in Motion
Dr. Z, the skin doctor, still around and hasn't changed at all in 15-20 years now, I see
    Random defaced ads and graffiti
    Some big gaudy corporate sponsor

    Dr. Zizmor!

    "Wild Orchids", by Katha Pollitt:

Very nice, but not particularly re-readable.
Good enough for the subway, I guess.
This is why I hate contemporary English-language poetry. (or , in which case, simmer down)

Re Pollitt's poem: Eh, I'm not wild about that one, either. .

    1) Replant the cactus.
    2) "Under My Own Thumb"

    Ugh, David Copperfield?

Re: #315, I just boarded the red eye to NYC; seat sterilization complete.

Why can't they ever put me next to someone hot?

The hot younger types are less likely to be elites sitting in the exit row
