Re #270, I'd rather dine in awkward semi-privacy in the first choice than have people fuss over me in the second.

My parents just announced that they're showing up in a few weeks. Which place to take them?

    Michael Mina
    Gary Danko
or some cheap Chinese place because they're going to b*tch about the first two being too expensive and not Chinese enough for them even though I'm paying for it

Take them to Michael Mina and insist on ordering them the most sculptural menu items possible.

Take them to a cheap Chinese place called "Jade Dragon", "Hunan Village", or something generic along those lines.

How many intrusive french kids could you get through before socking one in the face?

    #283: 1, if I'd had a bad skate; 100, if I'd been spectacular.

    #282: I'd sock him too.

    Take a wild guess.

Which are you most excited to see?
    Carolina's Dvorak "humoresque" sp
    or
Alissa's Liszt "consolation No. 3 in D flat major"
    or
    neither. screw them both.

I was going to say that you'd committed the unpardonable crime of changing your mind, but I see that you merely said you thought it overrated, which still leaves room for liking it.

    Kostner's "Humoresque" SP.

Skaters born today: Todd Eldredge or Yukari Nakano?

Well, his ivy league sensibilities still nauseate me (sorry UMBS ) but I liked his skating and liked the program. As a child I always thought he vaguely resembled Mr. Bean. Regardless, I was a total idiot jerkoff back then (as opposed to today, where I am only partially). I should thank you to remove that link immediately.

Gorgeous Yukari. As a young skate fan, I always thought Todd was the most repulsive thing ever.

    Revisiting Yukari's Firebird long program.
    A choreographic disaster.
Surprisingly voidy for a skating warhorse.
    A masterpiece.
A costly choice in an olympic season.

    Very good, but no "Giselle".

first decade of competitive skating you actually find watchable, based on what you've seen up to this point:

    1870s
    1900s
    1910s
    1920s
    1930s
    1940s
    1950s
    1960s
    1970s
    1980s
    1990s
    2000s (You lie.)
    2010s

I can't say I approve of his yellow kitchen but Monet's Garden seems lovely. Too much frilly stuff at Sissinghurst.

Believe in his ability to skate up to his potential? No.

Believe that he's awfully nice to look at? Yes. Especially that smile.
