2 heats down in the relays and 3 teams already disqualified for various screw ups...

Le Squeal! Canada in going 42.99 have broken a national record that has stood since 1976 in Montreal at the Olympic Games! I know they won't win a medal in the finals, but to get the NR and to get a finals spot for a team that hasn't competed in 4X100 relays since 2001 is beyond massive. On top of that, they nearly blew the last baton exchange, so if they clean that up for finals, they should be able to get a couple to three tenths off of that and get themselves maybe into top 5. Great job girls!

Always love the of the relay. Big surprise that Ukraine didn't get through.

Obergfoll finally wins a global title and Mickle takes the silver for Australia. Two Aussie throwers in Top 5!

Asbel Kiprop retains his 1500m title. Centrowitz (USA) was second, Kronje (SAF) third.

Tamgho is teasing the heck out of everyone! Nearly world record twice and barely over the board.

Sum literally comes out of nowhere and improves her PB by almost two seconds to win the 800. Another gold for Kenya. Perhaps inspired by Kiprop? Montano has got to learn how to pace herself better. That will kill her almost every time. Solid run for Savinova to win a medal.

Ugh, WTF happened in the Women's 4x100?

The USA 4x100 baton bumble curse strikes again!

USA... looked a bit iffy even with the botch... May be worth a protest just to see. Jamaica it wasn't even close... wow... Hugely dominant. Canada, would have been nice to see an even better time, but to get to the final having not had a 4X100 team compete in 12 years is a really good accomplishment and will hopefully have our federation invest in these girls and this relay... Team GB ran a solid race as well. So good for them.

As much as I love Team GB, sorry... but the replay shows that the second to last exchange was clearly well outside of the zone... Canada has to launch a protest... That to me has to be a DQ...

As a Brit, I completely agree with you. I'm just cringing at Chambers in the bowler hat and flag knowing that they are going to be DQ'd.

floskate, I absolutely adore when Team GB makes the podium, but in this case, I have to go with Canada. The hand off just wasn't in the zone and about 4-5 meters out of bounds. That being said, I hope Athletics Canada is launching an immediate protest... that being said, I don't have faith that they're that smart... I hope the Team Coaches are smart enough to be looking at that relay, but this has to be a Canada bronze medal...

GB definitely exchanged outside the zone, but unless someone files a protest they'll get to keep their medal.

and the officials at Athletics Canada are a bunch of twits... hence why I'm not sure if they'll launch a protest or not... They have to do it immediately. If the coaches don't do it, they're idiots.
