I agree with you jimakros.
Yuna Kim as of the end of the 2012/13 Season:
Skated in 20 events as a senior excluding National events and 14 times she finished in first place
Of the 6 times she did not finish first
- 2 WC bronze medals she was significantly injured
- 1 WC silver after the Olympics she did not want to be there and if it wasn't for her usual obligation to do things whenever they are expected of her, sacrificing herself in the process, she wouldn't have been at that competition
- 1 WC silver as her only event that season. Her heart was not in it that year and many believe she won the event
- 1 GP Final silver with the pressure of skating at home (the only time in her career excluding National competitions), she did what most of us do all the time. She underperformed because of the self imposed pressure. But I think she learned a lot from that competition that helped her for the 2010 Olympics.
I'm not making excuses for Yuna, only stating my view of 5 of her 6 losses. And yes, I know a silver and bronze can be considered significant accomplishments. Also I should add, to my knowledge Yuna has never made excuses for any performances that were not her best.
I don't think most figure skating fans realize how dominant she has been since she has been skating at the senior level. I follow a lot of sports and have followed many great athletes but I have never seen anyone more disciplined and committed to training and preparation.
