It is my understanding that Dave is allowed to listen to music/IPOD at his job.

Utter rubbish Jenny. No employer actually pays people to "work" while paying attention to podcasts and interviews. Background music may be tolerated, sure, but not full interviews he listened to while "working" and was paying attention to instead of, you know, working.

Slacker. And he can't skate for his life. If he used his toe picks any more in simple forward cross overs, he might as well just make shish kabob.....

^^^WTF? Do you have some sort of personal beef with Dave? He's not always been my favorite person, but this is a little nuts.
At my old job, we were allowed to listen to anything while completing paper work, and I worked in a very strict, serious job with the Judiciary.
kwanette - why didn't you tell us your name is really Jenny?

No way. I did a 3/3 at Skate America 03 in Reading and Peggy Fleming said that I "stole the show". If you don't believe me, ask that kwanette girl..She was there and in the front row.

You probably landed that 3/3 because you didn't listen to your ipod while you were working.

actually, in addition to listening to my soap via that little radio, I also listened to The View, Live with Regis and Kelly, many NPR shows, Howard Stern and more at work....all of which are chock full of interviews. My employer never docked my pay....for over 17 years.
According to Charlie Brown, there are three things you can't help but stare at: a babbling brook, a crackling fire and a Zamboni clearing the ice.

I've booked holidays whilst being at work. A colleague and I would always pop Family Guy on youtube during the "slow hours". I've also filled in application forms for other jobs whilst standing behind the till.

Mind you, I'm perhaps NOT a model employee.

I planned my wedding during slow times at my job, with the consent of my employer. My work always came first and continued to be excellent, though. It's amazing what you can do when you simply must be in one place (which I did, as the receptionist and office gopher) but have nothing to do.

Dunno what Prsk8fan has against Dave, but I thought Dave had made great progress in his skating. IT ISN'T EASY, YOU FOOLS!!! Especially when you're a fully grown adult.

Criticising an adult skater is a low blow.

And as others have said, I have been in many jobs where you could listen to pod casts.

Hahaha. If he makes shish kabob at work, listening to podcasts while making kabobs would be totally fine.

He ran over the brand-new litter of puppies, didn't he? While pressing the accelerator with his toe pick.

I used to skate with Dave when he was just starting out and working on his crossovers a few years ago. He's come a long way & I can think of a few other adult skaters who would love to make that kind of progress. Sure, compared to World competitors he can't skate, but neither can 90% of all skaters out there. Should we all quit?

PairSk8Fan, don't you have anything better to do than criticizing others for what they post, or how they spend their time?

He can't hear you, he's listening to a podcast of how to win friends and influence people.
I guess the hard thing for a lot of people to accept is why God would allow me to go running through their yards, yelling and spinning around.

Actually, I have a very long history in skating, including skating for 18 years (as an adult) as a singles and pair skater. I have competed in local, National and international events. I have skated in numerous ice shows. I have multiple National medals and one US title in Adult Pairs and one international win in singles. I have been in ice ballet productions and community productions, many times chosen through audition for lead roles. I have choreographed both singles and pairs for myself and others. I have attended training camps and been instructed and coached by Olympic Champions. I can back up my opinions regarding skating from personal experience.

In case others will ask, my profession is such that my entire concentration was required, and the thought of using work time for personal entertainment is offensive to me. After a career of 25 years, and success, I am now semi-retired. When I do work, it is with the same single-mindedness as previously. I take "slacking" very seriously because people who work hard always end up carrying the slacker on their backs. It's offensive to me that lazy people get carried by those who work with integrity.

Now back on point. I find Dave Lease and his "cattiness" and "snarky comments" to be offensive. Who is HE to judge figure skating's history, elite skaters, judges and coaches, and then come up with insulting and "catty" and "snarky" comments about them? Who is HE to provide his personal opinions in a world-wide format (YouTube) and expect them to be given credibility? Who is HE to insult someone like Sarah Hughes?

He is nothing but a fan. A wannabe gymnastics judge and wannabe FS commentator and wannabe FS judge. He is a wannabe skater. He is a wannabe who should show more respect.

One other point to consider.... as a skater, he is a member of USFS. As such, athletes are held to a code of conduct. His "snarky comments" and "cattiness" and insults on a PUBLIC PROGRAM like YouTube could be seen as athlete misconduct by the USFS. He could lose membership or be sanctioned. In fact, I think that if Sarah Hughes complained to USFS, they would look into disciplining him.

There is SO MUCH more he could do if he really cared about skating like.....

Take classes and become a judge or Tech Specialist.
Volunteer for USFS in a meaningful way, i.e. give them huge amounts of your work and time for nothing.
Join Committees within the USFS structure.

There is a lot more to do than post yourself interviewing skaters, coaches, etc. and trying to get them to diss on others for enjoyment, as well as making a forum for your own conspiracy theories and GOSSIP. It doesn't help the sport AT ALL. Stuff like this belongs in a Forum such as this.

TSL is pablum for FS fans. I don't need baby food, thanks.

All of this is, of course, IMHO.
