A club competition where 10 junior ladies landed at least one triple? Good standard!

Alexa Scimeca/Chris Knierim debuted their “Papa Can You Hear Me?” SP last night and looked solid on all their elements - 65.69 (38.43/27.26). S/K's elements included a very high 3twist, throw 3F, sbs 3S (not quite landed in unison), lasso entry into star lift - believe this entry is new for them.

Some of the triples were likely < or << but it was still impressive to see many decent attempts!

The Jumps events were fun to watch last night - will post a summary later when I have time (hoping someone will send me the majority ordinal results). ETA: Yay, someone just did!

I know it's just a club comp, but still an impressive score for Scimeca & Knierim this early!

I will always remember Alexa Scimeca back when she was competing at MW in jr ladies. There was one year (2007?) she landed quite a few triples to qualify for nationals at MW jr ladies. That was the same year Dee Dee Leng landed like 4 triples and still couldn't qualify.

    Tidbits from the Broadmoor Open:

Colorado Springs got a huge rainstorm last night. Lots of thunder, lightning and torrential rain. During Jason Brown's jump competition the lights dimmed. The crowd yelled "lights out skating Jason!"

Yesterday was Rohene Wards 30th Birthday. The crowd sang "Happy Birthday" to him during his jump warmup.

There was a very young Juvenile Pair team from Nashville competing. They had no competition. In the nearly empty arena a booming voice was heard cheering their every move. I turned around to see John Coughlin cheering them on. Thanks John...a class act

Novice Ladies FS & Final was just won by Paige Rydberg (UGL) with a total score of 118.91, the second highest known score of the season so far. She scored 76.77 in her “I’m A Doun” FS - jumps landed: 2A+2T+2Lo, 3S+2T, 2F+2Lo, 3T, 2Lz(edge?), 2A. Very precise skater with fast rotation on her jumps & good flow out on them.
    2-14: M Hedges (UGL) 104.81 (69.15), R Shin 101.26 (64.08), A Kortjohn 101.04 (68.81), C Rodriguez 94.21 (59.72), C Z Yang (CP) 90.21 (60.68), K Doan 89.85, T Hannig 86.26, S Zhang (CP) 83.63, R G Crawford (CP) 80.39, L Ellison 79.08, T Weingarten (EGL) 74.87, K Curran 73.49, A Chen 65.27

    From last night:

Senior Ladies Jumps (2 competed; 6.0 majority ordinal judging)
Selena Zhao (NWP) 7/1 – F spiral into 2A (twice) good height & flow out, 3Lz+3T+2?T, 3Lz+3T+2T, footwork into 3Lo (twice)
    Polina Edmunds (CP) 7/2 – 2A, 2A, 3F-half loop-3S, 3Lz+3T+1Lo, footwork into 3F, footwork into 3Lo

Senior Men Jumps (8 competed; 6.0 judging)
Jason Brown (UGL) straight 1sts across 7/1
    Jordan Moeller (UGL) 7 4 2 2 2 2 2 5/2
    Rohene Ward (Indiv Member) 2 3 3 4 4 3 4 4/3
    Brandon Mroz 4 2 6 3 5 4 7 4/4
    Brian Krentz (UGL) 6 5 5 7 3 6 3 4/5
    Paul Bonifacio Parkinson (ITA) 5 6 4 5 6 8 8 5/6
    Lukas Kaugars 7 7 8 6 7 5 6 6/7
    Spencer Simon (UGL) 3 8 7 8 8 7 5 4/7

    Some jump highlights:
Brown was the clear winner, landing a lovely, high 3A to open. His second 3A was not quite as good (slight 2foot on landing?), then he did two 3F+3T+3T combos, followed by footwork including a back leap into the 'tano 3Lz (landed twice) that he missed in his SP earlier.

Moeller tried 3A twice & fell, landed 3T+3T+2T, footwork into 3Lo.

Ward landed his opening 3A and grinned (think he missed his attempts in warmup), 3F+2T (opened up), 3F+3T+2T, similar footwork with back leap into Lz but he singled the 1st and doubled the 2nd.

Mroz - 3A fell out, 3A hand down/step out, 4T fall, 4T hand 2T+2T, 4 T fell out, ended with a fall on 4Lo attempt (he tried 4Lo in this event last year, too).

    Jr ladies final flight:
Morgan Flood fell on first three triples but rallied in the second half and did the next three. ETA: second behind Elena Taylor who did well in the free skate.
Amber Glenn fell on 3 flip and hit the board. Looked like it hurt and she couldn't do the 3 lutz. She came back with 2A/3t and I think a 3 loop but double and popped the other triples and fell on footwork. Ihope she's okay! ETA: She fell to 4th
Ashley Shin to Turandot. Landed the lutz, a 2A/3t (maybe ur), and another 3t I think. THe flips and the 3 sal didn't happen today. ETA: 131.33 First!
S Zhao had only one fall I think (I confess I wasn't paying full attention). She relied mainly oon fast rotations
    Should lead.
Barbie Landed the 3 lutz but botched everything else. ETA: 124.76 5th!

Can't help it, that will always make me smile.

Good to see Rohene back into the swing of things! Mroz's emphasis on jumps has finally come back to bite him, I think.

It was a jump competition so he tried the hardest jumps. He was flawed on 3A and quads and quad loop. But there isn't anything below a 3A! For June he did great! Bite him?

Junior Ladies won by Selena Zhao (NWP) 145.37 (96.88 FS) “Il Postino” soundtrack – 2A high, 3Lz foot down (no planned combo with 3T), 3Lo, 3F+2T+2Lo, 3Lz fall, 3F, 3S+2T. She didn’t qualify for Nationals in Jr. last season so this is a great start to her season.

2-10: Ashley Shin 131.33, Elena Taylor 127.25, Morgan Flood 127.18, Barbie Long (UGL) 124.76, Isabella Dow 119.44, Zoe Gong (CAN) 116.03, Amber Glenn 116?? (does anyone know her full score? ETA: 116.00 - thanks, jlai!), Ariana Grymski (UGL) 111.09, Anjing Fu 106.41

I Luuuvee Ashley Cain's Ave Maria. She didn't do the lutz and doubled a flip, but did 5 triples including 3f/3t (not sure about ur, will need slo-mo)
Mature, beautiful and strong basic skating. She rocks! I hope she gets a senior B out of this
    ETA: 154.52!

M Bell skated well too. She landed a lutz, a 2a/3t, and two or three more triples. nice program too! ETA: 154.58 first!

ETA: Technically Polina did enough to win, unless she gets dinged for ur or something. Did that change sit have enough rotations? Not sure. Program was a bit dull IMHO. Nice layback though.

Music sounded like Peer Gynt suite but I am not certain. ETA: I've just checked. The second half is Peer Gynt Suite (Morning). Not sure about the first half

Mariah Bell's Sr FS is to Titanic soundtrack (sea foam dress) - landed 3Lz, 2A+3T, 3F+2T, 3F, 2A at end. She takes a slim lead with total score of 154.58, 99.03 FS.

    Ashley Cain 154.52, 103.79 FS - jumps landed incl. 3F+3T (new this yr), 3Lo, 3Lo-turnout-2T+2Lo, 3S & 2A.

I was told the first half of Edmunds' FS is "Solveig's Song" - also from Peer Gynt Suite by Edvard Grieg.

She scored 168.27, 109.46 FS, to win. Jumps were: 3Lz both hands down (no combo with 3T), landed 3F-half loop-3S, 2A, 3F small step out, 3Lz, 3Lo+2T, 2A.

    Thx, Sylvia.
Sr men coming up next! So...what are the odds that Jason will skate to a familiar piece of classical music again?

ETA: Familiar all right, but Riverdance is not classical. About time he did something this upbeat in the lp!

That was a cool riverdance. Some of the jumps looked tight but very solid for June! Look forward to seeing the program kick butt! ETA: 224.44!

Can't wait to see Edmunds and Bell (and Karen Chen!) on JGP this season! Sounds like Ashley Cain also had a great skate for mid-summer.
