The One That Stole The Show

I'm talking about the one skater, or couple, that came out with no chance of winning, and rocked the house.
The jumps may not have been the best, but the program got attention, and the audience loved it. Mine was...

I think the judges needed to score her below Amber Corwin.

I was fortunate to see Laurent Tobel at 98 Worlds. I think he came about 15th but he was so entertaining he got to do the gala.

    Loved this one!

I know several that would fit into this category, but I'll have to think. The one that I remember from the first event I attended was Rahkamo and Kokko's OD at the 1992 Olympics. I am in no teknic when it come to ice dance but I loved their freshness and originality. I don't know whether they really enjoyed the performance, as I'm sure they were nervous, but they created a sense of happiness and fun that filled the arena. I was there with my mum, who knew nothing at all about skating, but she also liked this dance very much.
I hear outside a million panicking birds, and know even out there comfort is done with; it has shattered even the stars, this creature at last come home to me.

Stephane Lambiel's LP at 2002 Europeans! He brought down the house. I guess it helped that the event was in Lausanne but it was still amazing.

I think many of Midori Ito's performances before 1988 could fall into the category.

    1986 Worlds FS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4oZ-Judbac

1987 Worlds SP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4m44_HPA8I (I loved how she hit the musical accents, and the monster 2A variation would be +3 today)

    1987 Worlds FS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQ_C60zJfB4

    And of course, this:

Not quite "stole the show" territory, but Michael Shmerkin had his moments

I'll second the nomination for Ruh in 1999. She had much more going for her than spins. Her carriage and musicality were top class.

Also, agree. Ito (and Manley) stole the show in 1988 LP

Wow. BAN ALL JUMPS, I say! If everyone could spin like Ruh, then jumping should be banned! That last spin was so fast that I feared she was going to drill through the ice and disappear rom view!!
It's official. I am madly in love with Meryl Davis.

Nathalie from Switzerland (can't remember her last name) but her SP at the 1998 Oly was wonderful.

2008, Goetheborg. It was the first example that popped into my mind as well. They truly stole the show indeed.
