Could Kerrigan have won the 94 world title?

I always wondered after Kerrigans great comeback year in 93-94 season, had she gone to worlds that year could she have beaten Sato on her home turf? Of course after all the media hype and Nancys fall from grace with the public, she was NOT gonna go to worlds, but if she had skated her 94 Olympic performance (although I don't think she would have needed the 3/3, triple toe double toe would have been fine) I do think the judges would have given her the win.
Sato had beat Kerrigan at 92 Skate America and 93 worlds, where she Nancy was her usual inconsistent self in the LPs. With her newfound confidence winning the test Olympic event over Chouinard, Chen, Sato and others, I do think she could have won it over Sato who was excellent, but not a huge judges favorite as is.
As much as I am a huge Yuka fan and glad she won that world title to catapult her pro career, I do think it would have been nice for Kerrigan to skate a clean season and win nats and worlds that year, and of course what should have been her Olympic gold.

Her consistency was 50/50, but she could have if she was on. However, it was smart for her to go pro right after a clean skate at a big competition that came down to a tie breaker.

I read that probably most in Kerrigan's mind in 1994 Lillehamer was not the attack but her performance in Prague! Doing all she can mentally to keep it all together! And she was very good at keeping it together. It was by far the best shed done in years and years! That kind of mental focus was probably not going to be there in Japan.

Thats true her Prague skate and even her 93 nats skate made her angry. She was the absolute best in late 93 into 94, and really her best skating since 91. BTW how great she went for that spread eagle into Lutz.

On reputation alone she would have been a lock if she did even 5 triples (not needing the triple-triple she did at the Games), maybe 4 if one was the lutz. Given the field and the performances it would have been completely hers to lose. Bonaly skated poorly and lost gold by .1, and even a very good Bonaly couldnt beat a good Kerrigan. Sato didnt have the rep which is why she barely beat Bonaly when she should have crushed her. A decent Kerrigan would have had no problem.

I also wonder if Harding had been allowed to skate in Japan, how she would have done.

Probably won the bronze over Szewcenko, then had it stripped a few weeks later.

There would have been a lot of b**** - slapping on the podium in Japan, that's for sure.

Maybe Tonya would have landed her triple axel this time and skated perfectly and still only been given bronze even behind sloppy and overmarked Bonaly because....well you know why. Then after Surya threw her potty tantrum, Tonya would also taken her medal off and protested not winning or atleast finishing over Bonaly, and then bonaly and Harding would have had a fight, and Sato would have lost her cool and got into the fight too for them sabatoging her golden moment on home ice further, and then the fans would join in too.

Oh - and then...they both would have been banned only to come back in Nagano as a woman-woman pair team!

Kerrigan would've won skating competent programs - Baiul was absent, Lu was out of the competition due to injury and Bonaly, who wasn't even clean at '94 Worlds, wouldn't have beaten competent performances by Kerrigan. As someone upthread had mentioned, Sato did win but wouldn't have had the rep to beat a competent Kerrigan either.

This was a particularly decimated ladies field post Olympics, no? - All 3 medalists were out for one reason or another, as were the 7th (Witt) and 8th (Harding) place finishers. 5 of the top 10 were gone.

I'm always confused by how much of reality we're suppose to suspend in these "what if..." threads. As Kerrigan told diane sawyer "I did my best and they just didn't like me". Absolutely everything from her post 94 oly "loss" betrayed a defeated woman with zero self confidence and fight. She couldn't even skate a clean exhibition. And her pro career started out like a train wreck because her head was a mess. How would she do at 94 worlds? See Cohen at 06 worlds to find the answer IMHO.

No. Even if Baiul, Kerrigan, and Chen had all entered Sato would have won. She was in great form, and was on her home ice, and was the best all around skater at the time when on. People base things too much off her Olympics finish but had she done a clean short though she would have been on the podium, and maybe the gold in Lillehammer as well, and she didnt have home ice like in Japan. The judges wouldnt dare deny her the title on her home ice skating like that.

That would have been the perfect end to an already polemical season of skating! Maybe after a soccer-type riot, Yuka Sato might have developed more chutzpah and worn hats and not gone anywhere near an unfortunate Cyndi Lauper album...

For years I've enjoyed your contempt for that "Hat Full of Stars" program. But Yuka always had nice skating skills.
