I "supported" Patrick as well as a few other skaters. I'm a curler so I'm really into Team Jacobs as well and hoping all our Canadian atheletes perform their best.

    Yes, that was awesome!

Thanks for the link to support the athletes in Sochi, that was cool. I hope Patrick only skates one of the two programs for the team event. Absolutely, the most important thing is for him to have the best shot at the individual gold medal!

If he doesn't want to skate the LP, fine, but hopefully isn't pressured by SC to sit it out because that would mean no gold.
    And obviously, I disagree.

It is very unlikely that Japan qualifies for the free skate (though if they do, then yes, I'd say Chan should be skating to assure Canada team gold). China would need to skate an absolute blinder to make it (and hope for Italy and France to have some terrible performances). Otherwise, look at how Amodio and Joubert are skating this season. I think Reynolds can beat them. Who is the Italian man? Exactly - the Italian man didn't qualify for the free skate. Realistically, Reynolds can place third in the long program segment, earning 8 points for team Canada. But a good Reynolds, with his base value and solid PCS (which are higher than they should be, imo) can outscore a mediocre/bad Abbott or Brown. Unrealistically? Reynolds has scored 170 internationally. He won't score that this season because of the lack of training, but he has that potential. In a depleted field, 160s could win it outright.

If Canada gets 18 points from the men, that should put them in good stead. Dance should give Canada 18 points at minimum. Pairs is going to want at least 17. If Osmond can limit the damage in ladies, then Canada wins.

Corianna, this information was posted then redacted. Chan himself said he'd like to skate all four programs.

Interesting analysis, Proustable. I agree with you.

BTW, any idea whether the FS team have left for Sochi? I cannot believe that's only around 10 days to the start of Olympics. I hope Patrick is taking good care of the team since he's no longer the 'puppy in daycare centre'. He and V&M are now 'old dogs' so they will have to take care of the other 'puppies'.

Good luck Team Canada and Patrick!

DiManno is The Star. Probably not from a Skate Canada Press Release or more would have run it... so speculation? It would be unlikely that SC would announce before they had to, whether or not they've decided.

Did Slipchuk/Skate Canada really say or suggest that men's gold would be more important to them than ice dance? If they did, I find it a little disrespectful to Tessa and Scott and their abilities. I know V/M already have an OGM under their belt but still...

He didnt say that at all. Al lhe said is that He wanted Patrick to skate only 1 program the short.
VM came out and stated that they would skate all four as did KO.

Woah, turned on @CTVCanadaAM and they're at the airport where Chiddy is coming through soon... Can't believe it's a week out!
Here's a link to the CTV coverage (but no Patrick sighting yet).

My wife and I are making a song in Honor of Patrick Chan and his Olympic journey.
heres the lyrics thus far. Hope it puts a smile on your faces.

    Now here’s the tale
    As I sip my ale
Of the Ice King Patrick Chan
Born with skates on his feet
    Destined to compete
    The fate of Canada
    In his hands

    Since 1924
    There’s never been before
    A Canadian to win gold
    Others tried before
    To even the score
But they left them in the cold

As he stepped in the rink
    He began to think
Of his gold medal winning plan
    I’ll reverse the curse
    I will be first
So catch me if you can

Did you have any music in mind with this? For some strange reason, the intro to Fresh Prince of Bel Aire came to mind for me.

I was thinking of the past few years, not necessarily recently. I do know some of the fans of Virtue/Moir always felt that Skate Canada was throwing all their support behind Patrick and neglecting V/M but I really don't think that Patrick is more of a favorite for gold at the Olympics in the men's event than Tessa and Scott are in their respective discipline.

Anyways, Chiddy arrived in Sochi safely.

I just think the Mens' event has always been an easier sell than any of the other disciplines and since Browning's era it has been seen in a more macho light. Plus the fact that Ice Dance is the punchline to jokes more often than not doesn't add to it's promotional appeal.

Thank you princessomega. That's a nice song for Chiddy. We are all hoping of a great outcome because he has worked so hard the last four years for this day.

VarBar, I don't get the feeling that Skate Canada is promoting one over the other? Any medals should be welcome and valued and will boost figure skating in the skaters' home country. The recent V&M tv show indicated how much loved V&M are and their popularity. I am not sure why some think otherwise.

Thanks luckiest1 for Chiddy's pix in Sochi. My heart is beating faster and faster by the day. I hope my heart remains strong.

More Patrick pictures by Blair Gable taken during the Nats.
