Who will win the ladies' singles title at 1999 Worlds?

Kwan's got it in the bag, of course, but I'd be interested to read different perspectives on the question.

I predict gold for Kwan, silver for Slutskaya, and bronze for Gusmeroli.

The poll is on the way.
I think Tatiana Malinina will surprise us all.

I thought of posting some of the choices' career highlights so far, but I can't find enough RealPlayer and Quicktime videos to fill out a decent list.

Kwan should just retire after these worlds, no way her bod will hold up another quad.

I don't know about that. Still, she'd have a great competitive pro career. I could see her winning every World Pros and every Winter Goodwill Games title from here to 2013.

Dont you kind of have to be in the event to win a medal. In all seriousness I dont think anyone predicted Gusmeroli to even be a factor as much as she was. The consensus was Kwan easy gold, and silver or bronze to any combination of ex Soviet skaters including Malinina that year. Maria after skating crappily and losing the grand prix final to Malinina looked to be on the way down heading into Worlds, but boy was that wrong it turned out.

Anyway I voted for the most underscored skater of those Worlds.

Kwan just needs to show up to win this. That's what my source (Peggy Flemming) tells me.

I think the girl who just won 1998 US Jr division might make it to Worlds. Just a feeling. Who knows, she might take it all the way to Salt Lake in 02?!

Call me crazy, but I think Julia Soldatova will be somewhere on the podium, and then after that, she'll join the ISU Skater Protection Program and hang out in Minsk with Susanna Driano.

A Tchaikovskaya pupil on next year's World podium? I don't think so.

I don't understand why there's a poll posted about the '99 Worlds in 2013. How is this.. funny?

    Well, after Europeans, my guess is : 1-Kwan, 2-Butyrskaya, 3-Soldatova, 4-Malinina, 5-Volchkova.
But I hope Gusmeroli can surprise us all the way she did in 1997 !

Kwan or Slutskaya. Who is voting for Butyrskaya? She has no chance at the podium, let alone gold!

Slutskaya is all washed up. There's no way she ever makes it to Worlds again, let alone wins it.

According to , she's met a guy, gotten married, and is pregnant.

Maria Butyrskaya!? Please! The only way she'd be able to win gold is if Michelle is sick as a dog and makes mistakes. Other than that, she hasn't got a prayer!

Now who I'd look out for is that Shizuka Arakawa. Have you seen that girl? If she isn't on every world podium from now until 2006, I'll eat my socks!

    *awesome thread BTW *

I vote for Tarasova taking a swig from her flask, making someone hold her big coat and getting on the ice and showing these girls how it's done.

    You're crazy.
Maria is washed up too. Kwan FTW. The other ladies on the US team will never medal at a major event. Kwan will continue to carry the team. Just recently MK said she didn't want to become a professional skater.
