How cold is it where you live?

Almost half the US population (140 million out of roughly 310 million) will experience temperatures less than zero Fahrenheit (-18C) the next few days!

Some funny temperature flukes: Atlanta is colder than Anchorage, AK and Moscow by 20 degrees F (7 degrees C) Nashville, TN is colder than Albany, NY by almost 40 degrees F (4 degrees C)

Thankfully, here it's only going to drop to 7F (-14C).

    Sooo...what's it like for you?

The real air temperature on my garage thermometer is -10. Wind chill according to the weather channel is -27, though they're going off the town airport's temp with is -7, so it's probably more like -30. The 20" of snow is actually the bigger issue....heck, my employer (a casino) did the one thing they said they NEVER do--closed our location for the day. We're 24/7/365 but no one is getting to work.

Outside of Vancouver, BC it is -1 (30 Fahrenheit). But it will warm up to +4 (39 Fahrenheit) this afternoon. And then the prediction is that it will rain for seven straight days. Which is fine. The Ark is pretty much ready to go...

I'm in eastern Iowa and when I came in this morning the real temperature was -15 F, and the windchill was -47 F.
I had my husband drive me to work because I work at a university and my parking lot is a 15 minute walk from my building. The news said that severe frostbite can occur in as little as 5 minutes.

I'm in St Louis, where the temperature is currently -3 F and a current windchill is said to be -24 F; that's the high for the day. Everything is closed today including the billing office of the utility companies and offices of St Louis City/County. Yesterday we about 12 inches of snow in the metro area. I have no plans to leave my house until at least Wednesday. The streets aren't clear yet because of the ice/sleet underneath. What a mess!!! Everybody stay warm and stay safe!

My sister lives in Los Angeles and told me that it was 74 F. I was sooooo jealous.......

I'm in Duluth, GA (about 30 miles northeast of Atlanta). It's a balmy 26 degrees F here, with wind blowing at 21 mph, so it feels more like 12 degrees F. Our low tonight is supposed to be 5 degrees F.

    Time to bundle up

12F here in north Alabama with 25 mph wind gusts. I'm waiting for someone from Saskatchewan or Siberia to post and make me realize it could be a heck of a lot colder.

I live in California and we've scarcely had a hint of winter all season. If it makes you feel better, pollution is definitely on the up trend.

I'm in the San Diego area and it's 74ºF (23ºC) right now at 1300. We haven't had much of a winter this year either. A week or so before Christmas it was 6-7ºC coming home from work at 2am, but mostly it's been 12-14ºC.

My brother, who lives up in the Adirondacks, has already had temperatures well below zero this winter - -26F only 2-3 weeks ago.

As far as Albany NY is concerned, this weather is not news. It was -9 last Friday night (I live 5 minutes away by highway so their weather is my weather) and we had a snow storm and Wind Chill Advisory in effect Thursday into Friday (-20 wind chill). Today OTOH.... it was pouring rain out at one point, and when I stepped out of my building to go to work at 7:30 this morning it felt almost like a late March/early April morning - 48F (if TN was 40 degrees colder than Albany, they would have been around zero because it was snowing here at noontime when you made your opening post). We're supposed to get down to 6F tonight, with a -15 to -29 wind chill factor (just got a Weatherbug Wind Chill Advisory alert on my phone). 7F tomorrow with 2F at night, and the temps are supposed to rise to 44F on Sunday during the day.

Here in Chicago's western suburbs, it started at -16F this morning, and it's warmed up to a whopping -14.
Give me one more quiet night, before this loud morning gets it right, and does me in.

A little north of Chicago, right now -11, wind chill -24. They had forecasted wind chills up to -50, but I think that's supposed to be later tonight. I'm not planning to go out until Wed.--one of the huge perks of working at home!!
