A severe thunderstorm rolled into Toronto Monday evening causing city-wide blackouts, traffic delays and floods in the city. Torontonians turned to social media to share photos of the storm.

Hang in there Toronto. Stay safe. The pictures are pretty amazing (in a bad way). Hope the waters recede quickly.

Someone on twitter said that Toronto's marine unit has 1 raft to rescue hundreds of passengers stranded on the Go Train. I'm sure the marine unit never anticipated this.

It was really intense around 5:30-6:00. I was lucky to get on transit that made its destination. The pictures are really something to see-- tons of cars under water, water in TTC buses and stations, the undergrount Path system with water pouring down some walls...

If I were stuck downtown I would have walked home rather wait hours. But thankfully I got home long before all this started.

Toronto struggles to recover from record rains

TORONTO — The Globe and Mail

Excerpt: (detailed article about transportation problems, power outages, etc.)

The Toronto area was drying out Tuesday morning after Monday night’s record rainfall brought transit and traffic to a stand still, knocked out power to several areas, and flooded homes across the GTA.

As of Tuesday morning, transportation in the Toronto area had yet to fully recover.

After much of the city’s subway service was shut down Monday afternoon, most of the lines are back up and running. The Bloor-Danforth line is still not operating between Kipling and Jane stations, however, and shuttle buses are running between those stops.
